BOBBY PIN DISPENSER Filed Oct. 19, 1954 Ticil.
INVENTOR. NATHAN L. SOLOMON BOBBY PIN DISPENSER Nathan L. Solomon, Englewood, N. J.
Application October 19, 1954, Serial No. 463,204
6 Claims. (Cl. 132-1) This invention relates to devices for dispensing bobby pins one at a time and in automatically opening the pin in the operation of discharging the same from a suitable holder to facilitate immediate use of the bobby pin. More particularly, the invention deals with a holder having means facilitating mounting or loading of bobby pins therein.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a holder made according to my invention, indicating the parts in a position opening a bobby pin, preparatory to discharging the same from the dispenser.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the upper portion only of the dispenser showing the parts in the normal position.
Fig. 3 is a view, similar to Fig. 2, showing the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1 and also illustrating part of the lower structure of the dispenser, portions of the dispenser being broken away.
Fig. 4 is a sectional detailed view illustrating the position of the parts substantially at the time of ejection of a bobby pin from the dispenser; and
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing, I have shown a bobby pin dispenser comprising a main hollow body or casing part 10, having a slightly enlarged upper end portion 11, forming a shoulder 12, against which an outer closing sleeve or shell 13 abuts, suitable means being provided to frictionally hold the sleeve or shell 13 in position upon the casing 10. The hollow casing has an opening extending through upper and lower surfaces thereof for passage of bobby pins upwardly through the casing, as later described.
Fitting into the lower portion of the shell 13, as noted in Fig. 3 of the drawing, is a bottom closure or cover 14, having centrally thereof, means, as at 15, for anchorage of one end 16 of a flat coil spring 17, the upper end 18 of the spring 17 being horizontally flat and adapted to bear upon the lowermost bobby pin 19 of a group housed within the casing 10.
Opposed side walls of the body or casing have elongated openings, one of which is seen at 20 in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing. These openings provide clearance for fingers of a hand in the mounting of bobby pins in the casing when the cover 14, including the attached shell 13,
are removed.
In the upper end of the casing or body 10 is a recess 21, in which is mounted a spring member 22, this member being suitably fixed in an end wall of the body, as seen at 23, and extends substantially the full width of the casing or body and is freely movable in the recess 21, at least at its end portion 24. The member 22 has an elongated aperture 25, in which the neck portion 26 of a sliding ejector button or fingerpiece 27 operates. This button or fingerpiece has a head 28 on the underside of the member 22 retaining the parts against displacement. By fiexure of the spring member, assemblage of the button or fingerpiece 27 therewith is accomplished. The button or fingerpiece 27 forms the ejector element for ejecting bobby pins 19 one at a time from the upper portion of the casing. The ejector element, or button, is normally positioned on the spring member 22 in spaced relation to the uppermost bobby pin, as seen in Fig. 2 of the drawing, to allow the uppermost bobby pin to come in the path of the button for ejection from the casing.
Considering Fig. 1 of the drawing, it will appear that one end wall of the casing includes an inwardly extending substantially V-shaped rib 29, upon which the end portions 30, 31 of the bobby pin bear, as the pins are moved toward the upper end of the dispenser by the spring 17, it being understood that the end 31 is disposed on one surface of the rib 29; whereas, the end 30 is disposed on the other surface thereof.
The top of the ribbed end wall of the casing has means for guiding the discharge of bobby pins, said means com prising an angular recess 32, the surface of which is bevelled, as seen in Fig. l. The upper surface of the rib 29, is bevelled as indicated at 33 in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawing, so that the looped end 34 of the bobby pin, as well as the head 28 of the ejector button 27 can ride up over the surface 33 in the discharge of the bobby pin. In this latter operation, it will be understood that the spring member 22 yields outwardly, in the manner diagrammatically shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
After discharging a bobby pin, in the manner illustrated in Fig. 4, the element 27 is moved backwardly along the member 22 to the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing; whereupon, the spring 17 will move the next successive bobby pin or the end portion 34 thereof in position to be engaged by the head 28 of the element 27 in picking up said bobby pin for discharge from the casing, in the manner described. In the beginning of this operation, it will be understood that the advance movement of the bobby pin will gradually spread the ends 30, 31 thereof until they reach a position, substantially as diagrammatically shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, after which, the pin is dispensed and, in the dispensing operation, the ends 30, 31 will be brought together, as with other devices of this type and kind.
It will be apparent that, upon removal of the cover 14 with the attached sleeve 13, reloading of the dispenser can be performed in a quick and simple manner, the only requirement being to position the rib 29 between the normally flared ends 30, 31 of the closed bobby pins.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
