(Cl. 4-177) This invention relates to dressing table screen guard supporting means for an infants bath stand and dressing table, and has for its purpose to afford a simple and effective means for pivotally mounting a screen guard on a dressing table in such a way that it is. readily movable from a compactly folded inoperative position to an upright operative position and is securely held in such upright position.

With infants bath stands of this general character, the conventional procedure has been to mount the dressing table screen guard on the tub frame at the rear of the tub which has necessitated supporting thedressing table in such way that it can be moved to either of its two positions independently of the screen guard, and a prin cipal object of the invention is to afford means for pivotally mounting the screen guard directly on the dressing table in such a way that it is effectively held in its upright position and easily foldable to lowered position.

Another object of the invention is to afford a simple, practical, and economical means for pivotally mounting a screen guard frame on a dressing table in such way that it can be held in operative position, is easily released and moved to inoperative position parallel to the dressing table, and does not interfere with the-[normal use of the bath stand and dressing table or the folding of these parts.

To these and other ends, the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts that will appear clearly from the following description when read in conjunction With the accompanying drawings, the novel features being pointed out in the claims following the specification.

Fig. l is a perspective view illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention applied to one type of infants folding bath stand and dressing table with the screen guard in its upright operative position;

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction indicated;

Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the screen guard in its lowered inoperative position, and

Fig. 5 is a view in rear elevation, with the screen guard in upright operative position.

Referring more particularly to the drawings in which like reference numerals refer to the same parts throughout the several views, the invention is illustrated as applied to one embodiment, of the general type illustrated in Patent No. 2,085,901, July 6, 1937, in which a dressing table is hinged to a folding tub supporting stand and is movable, when the stand is collapsed, to a position forwardly of the front leg frame of the stand, thus acting to retain the stand in folded relation.

In the structure of the aforementioned patent, the screen guard is pivotally mounted on the rear leg frame, whereas in the present structure, the screen guard is pivotally mounted at the rear edgeon the dressing table 2,769,983 Patented Nov. 13, 1956 and foldable to an upright operative position or to an inoperative position overlying and parallel to the dressing table, and in the arrangement shown, 1 and 2 designate the front and rear leg frames of a cross-legged folding tub supporting stand, the leg frames being pivotally connected at 3, while 4 designates a collapsible tube of plastic or other fabric suspended between the top rails of the leg frames and limiting their opening. movement.

The dressing table includes a rectangular metal frame of tubular crosssection, as indicated at 5, having rounded corners 6, while 7 designates a flexible sheet of plastic or other suitable material suspended from and attached to the metal frame 5 by any suitable means. The metal dressing table frame has fixedly attached thereto hinge plates 8 which are pivotally mounted on the upper ends of posts 9 attached to the legs of the rear leg frame, or otherwise pivotally supported on the rear leg frame to permit the dressing table to swing from its horizontal operative position as in Fig. 1 to an upright position at the rear of the tub or to a lowered position parallel to and forwardly of the front leg frame when the stand is folded, as in the aforementioned patent, upward movement of the dressing table being limited by engagement of a hinge plate 8 with a stop 11 secured to the rear leg frame. i t p The screen guard, which according to the invention is mounted on the dressing table instead of on the tub sup porting stand, is indicated generally at 12 and comprises a plastic or fabric guard slidably positionable on a onepiece wire screen guard frame which is shown as com prising a body portion 13 and ends 14 that merge into curved generally U-shaped gripping portions 15, which ,include reversely curved surfaces 16 that engage and grip the top surface of the tubular dressing table frame when the wire screen guard frame is moved to its upright or operative position as in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, there being sufficient flexibility in the wire of the screen guard frame to permit yieldable engagement of the gripping portions with the dressing table frame guard in its upright position,

The curved gripping portions 15 are located in planes perpendicular to the adjacent portion of the tubular dressing table frame 5 and terminate at their lower ends in right-angled supports or trunnions 17 which are pivotally mounted on the dressing table frame. To accomplish this, there are provided brackets with opposite upstanding portions 18 that are fixedly attached to the dressing table frame by rivets or pins 19. 21 indicate pockets or bearing portions at the bottom of the brackets away from the bearing portions 21 sutficiently to release the trunnions 17. When in operative position, the spring of the screen guard frame and engagement of the screen guard 12 are sufficient to retain the screen guard frame in upright or operative position when desired, while at the same time permitting its ready attachment to or removal from the dressing table frame as required.

While the invention has been described with relation to a particular structure, it is not confined to the precise details herein disclosed, and this application is intended to cover such modifications or departures as may come within the purposes of the improvement or the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. In an infants bath stand and dressing table of the type comprising a folding cross-legged tub supporting stand consisting of pivotally connected front and rear leg frames, a dressing table including a rectangular metal frame including front and rear bars of tubular cross section pivotally mounted and swinging about the ends of the rear leg frame and arranged to fold downwardly and forwardly of the front leg frame when the leg frames are collapsed, the dressing table thus acting to hold the leg frames in folded relation, and a screen guard pivotally supported on the dressing table frame, the improvement which consists in a wire screen guard frame of less length than the dressing table frame and including U- shaped gripping portions in parallel relation spaced from the ends of the dressing table frame and releasably engaging the rear bar of the dressing table frame at points spaced from the ends thereof to retain the screen guard frame in upright position, said screen guard frame terminating in inwardly extending supporting trunnions, and brackets attached to the rear bar of said dressing table frame at points spaced from the ends thereof and having bearing portions engaged by said trunnions.

In an infants bath stand and dressing table of the type comprising a folding cross-legged tub supporting stand consisting of pivotally connected front and rear leg frames, a dressing table including a rectangular metal frame including front and rear bars of tubular cross section pivotally mounted and swinging about the ends of the rear leg frame and arranged to fold downwardly and forwardly of the front leg frame when the leg frames are collapsed, the dressing table thus acting to hold the leg frames in folded relation, and a screen guard pivotally supported on the dressing table frame, the improvement which consists in a wire screen guard frame of less length than the dressing table frame and including parallel ends having U-shaped gripping portions extending forwardly from said ends around and from top to bottom of the rear bar of the dressing table to retain the screen guard frame in upright position, said gripping portions including reversely curved surfaces engaging the top and bottom of said rear bar at points spaced from its ends and terminating in trunnions extending inwardly toward each other perpendicularly to the plane of said gripping portions, and brackets attached to the rear bar of said dressing table frame at points spaced from the ends thereof and including bearing portions engaged by said trunnions.

In an infants bath stand and dressing table of the type comprising a folding cross-legged tub supporting stand consisting of pivotally connected front and rear leg frames, a dressing table including a rectangular metal frame including front and rear bars of tubular cross section pivotally mounted and swinging about the ends of the rear leg frame and arranged to fold downwardly and forwardly of the front leg frame when the leg frames are collapsed, the dressing table thus acting to hold the leg frames in folded relation, and a screen guard pivotally supported on the dressing table frame, the improvement which consists in a wire screen guard frame of less length than the dressing table frame and including parallel U-shaped gripping portions spaced from the ends of the dressing table frame and releasably engaging the rear bar of said dressing table frame at points spaced from the ends thereof to retain the screen guard frame in upright position, and brackets attached to said rear bar of the dressing table frame at points spaced from the ends thereof and including bearing portions, said U-shaped gripping portions terminating in right angled trunnions pivotally engaging said brackets at points spaced from the ends of the dressing table frame and detachably supported in said bearing portions.
