Description
G. CASEY.
Shovel-Plow.
No. 27,616. I Patented Mar. 27. 1860.
Witnesses- Inventor: 1 m. fil ad f XM M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. v
CULLEN CASEY, OF GOLDSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA. Q
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 27,616, dated March 27, 1860.
' do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, like letters referring to like parts in each drawing.
Figure l is a perspective view of the cultivator. Fig. 2 is plan view. Fig. 3 is a front view of the scraper and beam.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, 1 will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the construction of my invention,in Fig. 1, A is the beam, which is constructed of two pieces, and is attached by means of bolt 0 and band a, for the purpose otlthe male or horse walking on either side of the row, as may be desired; A, the stock; a, the handles; B, the
scraper; O, the screw-bolt connecting the front of the scraper with the beam A; 1), bolt passing through screw-bolt O.
In Figs. 2 and 3 the same letters designate like parts.
In Fig. 3 the scraper B is attached to the frame d. The scrapers can be easily changed when one set is worn out.
In the operation of my invention it will be seen that by the offset in the beam the animal drawing can walk on the side of the row Without injuring the cotton. This adjustable beam can be placed on either side of the main beam, as may be desired. The groove B passes directly over the cotton, allowing the scraper B to remove the dirt on each side of the row at the same time, thus scraping the cotton on both sides at the same time. This groove may be proportioned to suit the size and growth of the plant.
My machine is a very cheap cultivator, and a great saving of labor.
Having thus described the nature and operation o t"my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the beam A, scrapers B, groove B, and bolt G with stockA, the whole constructed and operating as described, for the purposes set forth.
UULLEN CASEY.
