1 Claim. (Cl. 4-159) This invention relates to a shampoo tray and head piece and more particularly to a device which can be attached to a barber chair, shampoo chair or a table for supporting the head of a person receiving a shampoo.

An object of this invention is to provide a shampoo tray and head piece which can be used to give a scalp treatment or a shampoo while the person is lying down on any of the above mentioned equipment.

Another object of this invention is to provide a shampoo tray and head piece having novel means thereon for securing the same in position on a supporting structure.

A further object of this invention is to provide a shampoo tray and head piece having novel means thereon for soaking the head of a person receiving the shampoo.

A yet further object of this invention is to provide a shampoo tray and head piece which is simple and efdcient in construction, and durable and lasting in use.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the improved shampoo tray and head piece forming the subject of this invention showing the same mounted in position on a barber chair with a person reclining thereon and having his head disposed on the shampoo tray;

Figure 2 is a vertical elevational view of the improved shampoo tray and head piece forming the subject of this invention;

Figure 3 is a top plan view of the shampoo tray and head piece forming the subject of this invention; and

Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the means for attaching the shampoo tray and head piece to a supporting structure.

Referring now more specifically to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the improved shampoo tray and head piece forming the subject of this invention includes a basin portion which is adapted to be secured to a supporting structure 12, such as a barber chair or the like. The basin 10 is substantially heartshaped and is provided with a recess 14 along one side thereof which is adapted to fit around the neck of a person receiving a shampoo. The bottom 16 of the basin 10 is contoured so as to have its lowermost point positioned adjacent the side of the basin 1t opposite the recess 14. The upper edge of the basin 19 is provided with an upwardly extending flange 18 for preventing water or the like from spilling over the sides thereof.

Suitable brace members 20 are secured to the edges of the basin 10 and extend beneath the lower surface thereof for bracing the same. Extending between two of the brace members 20 is a brace 22 to which is secured a downwardly extending rod 24. Slidably mounted on the rod 24 is a block 26 which is provided with a setscrew 28 for selectively adjusting the block 26 in position on the rod 24. Pivotally secured to one end of the block 26 on opposite sides thereof are a pair of blocks 30. A bolt 32 extends through the blocks 30 and block 26 and is provided with a wing nut 34 whereby the blocks 30 can be frictionally locked in position with respect to the block 26.

The free ends of blocks 30 are each provided with an aperture 36 extending therethrough transverse to the direction of the bolt 32. Rods 38 extend through the apertures 36 and are connected together at one of their ends by means of a transverse rod 40 welded or otherwise fixedly secured thereto. The other ends of the rods 38 are provided with ofiset portions 42 which are adapted to be received in brackets 44 which are fixedly secured to the barber chair 12. The brackets 44 are of conventional structure. The blocks 30 are each provided with a setscrew 46 extending therethrough and intersecting the apertures 36. The setscrews 46 will engage the rods 38 for frictionally retaining the same in longitudinally adjusted position relative to the blocks 30.

Thus, it will be seen that the shampoo tray and head piece can be simply and efiiciently attached to a barber chair by adjusting the rods 38 within the blocks 30 and locking the blocks 30 against pivotal movement with respect to block 26. Then, the oifset portions 42 may be placed in position in the brackets 44 and with the undersurface of the basin 10 adjacent the recess 14 positioned on the back of the barber chair 12, the block 26 may then be moved along the rod 24 and locked in position to clamp the basin 10 in position on the barber chair. A similar operation is used in attaching the shampoo tray and head piece to a table or any other supporting structure. Secured to the lowermost point of the bottom 16 of the basin 1G is a drain fitting 48. This drain fitting 48 is adapted to receive thereon one end of a flexible conduit 50 for conveying the waste water away from the basin it The other end of the conduit 56 can be placed in a standard basin or any other suitable place or" disposal.

The head piece forming part of this invention comprises a hood-shaped member 52 which is adapted to be positioned within the basin 10 and extend upwardly therefrom. The hood-shaped member 52 is provided with an open side 54 which extends in the direction of the recess 14-. Thus, when a person is in position on the barber chair 12, his head will be received within the hood-shaped member 52. The lower surface of the hoodshaped member 52 is in sealing engagement with the bottom of the basin 1%), whereby the hood-shaped member 52 may be utilized for soaking the hair of the person seated in the barber chair.

Means are provided for supplying water to the hood member 52 for rinsing the hair of the person receiving a shampoo. This means comprises a valve 56 having a contra-i 58 which is connected by a conduit 6i) to a suitable source of water supply. A conduit 62 is connected to the valve 56 at one end and at its other end to the top of the hood member 52. The hood member 52 is provided with a slot 64 whereby the conduit 62 can be moved back and forth to direct the flow of water over the various parts of the head of the person receiving the shampoo.

In practical use of the device, after the basin 10 has been secured to the supporting structure, the same may be used for giving a conventional shampoo without the head piece. However, when it is desired to give a scalp treatment to a person, the head piece 52 is placed in position on the basin 10 and the conduit 62 is connected to the valve 56. Then, water or other suitable fluid is allowed to pass through the conduit 62 and will be directed on the head of the person receiving the treatment. A

supply of water will be built up Within the head piece for soaking thehair of the person.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling Within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

A shampoo tray and head piece comprising a basin having a bottom contoured so as to have the lowermost point thereof adjacent one side of the basin, a recess in the side opposite said one side, said recess adapted to fit around the neck of a person receiving a shampoo, means secured to the undersurface of said basin for attaching the basin to a supporting structure, a hood-shaped memoer secured .to the upper surface of said basin and having an open side facing said recess to receive the head of a person receiving a shampoo, said hood-shaped member having a closed opposite side and a slotted top, and means for supplying water to said hood-shaped member to be directed on the persons head disposed in said hood comprising a conduit extending into said hood through the slot in its top and movable back and forth in said slot to apply water to different parts of the persons head.
