Description

Aug. 14, 1956 A. CORNU 2,758,763
WRIST-BAND FOR WRIST-WATCH Filed Jan. 24, 1955 United States Patent 2,758,763 WRIST-BAND FOR WRIST-WATCH Ami Cornu, La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, assignor to Cornu & (30., La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, a
firm of Switzerland Application January 24, 1955, Serial No. 483,620 Claims priority, application Switzerland January 28, 1954 4 Claims. (Cl. 224-4) My invention has for its object a wrist watch, the wrist band carrying which includes two rigid arcuate arms pivotally secured to the watch case.
My invention has more particularly for its object a novel arrangement of said arcuate arms as will be described in detail hereinafter.
I have illustrated by way of example in accompanying drawings, a preferred embodiment of a Wrist watch according to my invention. In said drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the wrist watch as a whole;
Fig. 2 is a side view of one arm of the wrist band.
Fig. 3 is a front view of same.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section thereof through line IVIV of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a view from below of the lower plate of such an arm.
Fig. 6 is a side view of the same lower plate.
The wrist watch illustrated includes a watch case 1 carrying two pairs of projections 2, each pair of which is pivotally secured to one of the two rigid arcuate arms 3. Each of said arms includes an arcuate tubular member 4 folded into the shape of a U and the medial section of which forms the outer end of the arm 3.
Said U-shaped member is provided throughout the inner edge of its length with a longitudinal slot inside which are fitted two superposed arcuate metal plates of which one, shown at 5, forms the body of the wrist band arm, while the second plate 6 covers the plate 5 and is in its turn covered for ornamental purposes by a layer of leather 7 glued over the said plate 6. Said plate 6 may as well be bare and ornamented by chequering or else by means of engraved or embossed ornaments or the like. The outer edge of the plate 5 is rolled so as to form a transversely extending tubular section 8 through which the arm may be pivotally secured as a whole to the watch case.
This arrangement allows dismantling the arm by causing the U-shaped member 4 to slide longitudinally and outwardly with reference to the plates 5 and 6.
The plate 6 may thus be changed whenever it is desired to modify the appearance of the wrist band. This being done, the two plates may be inserted in superposition inside the U-shaped member 4.
The plate 5 is provided in the vicinity of the pivotforming tubular section 8 with two bosses 5a (Figs. 5 and 6) which engage the ends of the U-shaped member 4 and provide thus for a frictional assembly of the difierent parts of the compound arcuate arm.
What I claim is:
l. A wrist band for a watch including a watch case and pivotal carrier means at two diametrically opposed points of the periphery of the latter, said wrist band comprising two rigid arms bent in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the watch, each arm including a substantially U-shaped tubular member the outer ends of which are adapted to lie in the vicinity of the pivotal carrier means on the watch case and the medial section of which forms the outer end of the corresponding arm, said U-shaped member being provided throughout its length with a slot facing inwardly of the U, a metal plate the outer edge of which includes a U-shaped section fitted inside the slot in the U-shaped member and a transverse section ice connecting the outer ends of the U-shaped section, through which the plate is secured to the pivotal carrier means on the watch case, and a second, ornamental metal plate fitted inside the slot of the U-shaped member to extend over the convex surface of the first mentioned plate.
2. A wrist band for a watch including a watch case and pivotal carrier means at two diametrically opposed points of the periphery of the latter, said wrist band comprising two rigid arms bent in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the watch, each arm including a substantially U-shaped tubular member the outer ends of which are adapted to lie in the vicinity of the pivotal carrier means on the watch case and the medial section of which forms the outer end of the corresponding arm, said U-shaped member being provided throughout its length with a slot facing inwardly of the U, a metal plate the outer edge of which includes a U-shaped section fitted inside the slot in the U-shaped member and a transverse section connecting the outer ends of the U-shaped section, through which the plate is secured to the pivotal carrier means on the watch case, a second metal plate fitted inside the slot of the U-shaped member to extend over the convex surface of the first mentioned plate and a leather cover for the outer convex surface of said second metal plate.
3. A wrist band for a watch including a watch case and pivotal carrier means at two diametrically opposed points of the periphery of the latter, said wrist band comprising two rigid arms bent in a plane peripendicular to the plane of the watch, each arm including a susbtantially U- shaped tubular member the outer ends of which are adapted to lie in the vicinity of the pivotal carrier means on the watch case and the medial section of which forms the outer end of the corresponding arm, said U-shaped member being provided throughout its length with a slot facing inwardly of the U, a metal plate the outer edge of which includes a U-shaped section fitted inside the slot in the U-shaped member and a transverse section connecting the outer ends of the U-shaped section, part of said metal plate adjacent the second section of the outer edge being rolled into a tubular shape to form a transverse pivot for connection with the pivotal carrier means on the watch case, and a second, ornamental plate fitted inside the slot of the U-shaped member to extend over the convex surface of the first mentioned plate.
4. A wrist band for a watch including a watch case and pivotal carrier means at two diametrically opposed points of the periphery of the latter, said wrist band comprising two rigid arms bent in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the watch, each arm including a substantially U-shaped tubular member the outer ends of which are adapted to lie in the vicinity of the pivotal carrier means on the watch case and the medial section of which forms the outer end of the corresponding arm, said U-shaped member being provided throughout its length with a slot facing inwardly of the U, a metal plate the outer edge of which includes a U-shaped section fitted inside the slot in the U-shaped member and a transverse section connecting the outer ends of the U-shaped section through which the plate is secured to the pivotal carrier means on the watch case, bosses formed on the concave side of the arm on said first metal plate near the ends of the transverse section of its outer edge for frictional engagement by the U-shaped member, and a second, ornamental plate fitted inside the slot of the U-shaped member to extend over the convex surface of the first mentioned plate.
