3 Claims. (CL 2-94) This invention generally relates to a hunting vest, and more specifically provides improved and novel construction in which the game that is obtained during the hunt may be conveniently carried, and more specifically provides a hunting vest having a double pocket on the rear thereof.
An object of the present invention is to provide a hunting vest including in its. construction a double pocket with the outermost pocket having an opening at the upper edge or adjacent the upper edge thereofandwith the innermost pocket having entrance openings at the side edges thereof wherein the side edges are detachably secured to the main body portion of the hunting vest.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a hunting vest having a double pocket construction in the rear thereof wherein one of the pockets is constructed of waterproof or bloodproof material thereby permitting game to be carried in the pocket without danger of soiling of the hunters clothes by blood from the game.
Other important objects of the present invention will reside in its simplicity of construction, effectiveness, for its purpose, its utility for carrying game and its relative inexpensive manufacturing cost.
These together withlother. objects andadvantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals. refer to. like. parts, throughout, and in which:
Figure. t is aperspective view of the hunting vest of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical, sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 22 of Figure 1 showing the construction of the interior of the double pocket construction on the rear of the hunting vest;
Figure 3 is a plan sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 33 of Figure 1 showing the construction of the double pocket arrangement and the means for attaching the hunting pocket to the main body of the hunting vest;
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken through one of the snap fasteners showing the details of construction thereof;
Figure 5 is a rear view of the hunting vest of the present invention showing the partition of waterproof material secured thereto;
Figure 6 is a plan view showing the pocket forming panel that is positioned on the rear portion of the body member in overlying relation to that partition;
Figure 7 is a rear view showing the pocket forming panel positioned on the main body portion of the hunting vest; and
Figure 8 is a perspective view showing the partition of waterproof material.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, it will be seen that the numeral 10 generally designates the hunting vest of the present invention which includes a main body portion 12 having arm holes 14 therein together with a "i cc vertical slit 16 in the front thereof together with means for securing the main body portion 12 on the body of the wearer in surrounding relation. The front of the main body portion 12 is provided with ammunition carrying pockets 18 which open upwardly, and the pockets 18 are provided with flexible protective flaps 20 at the upper edge thereof for protecting ammunition in the ammunition carrying pockets 18. Also, the main body portion 12 is provided with a. rear portion designated by the numeral 22 in the various figures of the drawings.
As illustrated in Figure 5, a horizontally disposed elongated rectangular partition 24 of waterproof material is secured to the back portion 22 of the main body portion 12 of the hunting vest 10 by horizontal rows of stitching 26 and 28 at the upper and lower edges of the partition 24 for securing the partition 24 tothe back portion 22.0f the main body 12 of the hunting vest 10. With this construction, it will be noted that the side edges of the partition 24 are free, thereby providing a side opening pocket on the rear of the hunting vest 10.
Positioned over the partition 24 is a pocket forming panel 30 having an upper edge 32 terminating in. downwardly curved concave edges 34 and 36 together with side. members 38 and 4t and a bottom member 42; The upper edge 32 is secured to the back portion 22 of the main body portion 12 of the hunting vest 10' by a horizontal line of stitching, 44. The inner edge of the bottom member 42 is securedto the lower edge of the back portion 22 of the main body portion It by the row of stitching 23 which is utilized to. secure the lower edge of the partition 24' to the back portion 22 of the main body portion 12 of the hunting vest it). As illustrated in Figure 2, the inner edge of the bottom 42 of the panel 30 is upturned, as indicated by the numeral 46, while the lower edge of the partition 24 is downturned, as indicated by the numeral 48', for securing the bottom edges of the partition 24 and the panel 30 to the hunting vest 10.
The side edges of the inwardly extending side portions 38 and 4i? of the panel 38 are secured to the side edges of the partition 24 by vertical lines of stitching 50, whereby a pocket is. formed between the partition 24 and the pocket forming panel 30', and entrance openings designated by the numeral 52 are provided by the free concave edges 34 at the upper corners of the panel 30'.
Snap fasteners generally designated by the numeral 54 are utilized for d'etachably securing the side edges of the partition 24 to the rear portion 22 of the hunting vest 10. The snap fasteners 54 are provided with a male portion 56 attached to the rear portion 22 of the hunting vest 10 by clamp pronged fastening members 58. The female member 60 of the snap fastener 54 is secured to the side edges of the partition 24 and the inwardly extending portions 38 and 40 of the panel 30 by pronged clamp means 62 whereby the female member 60 is provided with a resilient socket 64 for releasably and detachably receiving a headed projection 66 on the portion of the snap fastener 54 secured to the rear body portion 22. This will permit entry into the pocket formed between the partition 24 and the rear surface of the rear body portion 22 from either side thereof and the waterproof construction of the partition 24 will effectively stop passage of blood downwardly from the vest 10, thereby preventing damage to the hunters clothes.
Accordingly, it will be seen that the hunting vest 10 of the present invention provides a double pocket construction with the outermost pocket having inclined entrance openings 52 and the innermost pocket having side opening pockets detachably retained in closed position by the snap fasteners 54 wherein the pockets are separated from each other by a bloodproof partition 24 thereby forming a hunting vest with more carrying capacity and one which will retain various types of game in separated condition and also substantially eliminate soiling damage to the hunters clothes sometimes caused by blood dripping from the game.
Also, it is pointed out that the partition 24 being waterproof and bloodproof will permit the game to be positioned in the pocket formed by the panel 30 and outwardly of the partition 24 whereby other articles than game may be carried in the inner pocket, such as various camping and hunting equipment wherein it is necessary that such equipment be retained in dry condition and cannot come into contact with blood or other liquids normally found in game.
While the device is illustrated as a hunting vest, it will be understood that the pocket construction may be employed in a hunting garment having sleeves in the nature of a coat or the like. Also, a single snap fastener 54 will be adequate for the purposes of holding the side opening pocket in closed position in most circumstances.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.
