y 1956 L. H. KANEHL ET AL SPORTSMANS TOWEL Filed Dec. 12, 1951 INVENTORS L. H- KANEHL W. C. BENSON ATTORNEY United States Patent SPORTSMANS TOWEL Lester H. Kanehl and William C. Benson, Oklahoma City, Okla.
Application December 12, 1951, Serial No. 261,206
1 Claim. (Cl. 15-209) This invention relates to sportswear and more particularly to a sportsmans towel for handy carriage and use as well as a towel which can be easily removed, laundered and replaced.
Towels previously employed have been subject to criticism for various reasons including the fact that they were nuisances and not easily carried, were easily displaced or lost. Laundering was a problem and they were impractical for various other reasons including cost, efliciency, and the like.
It is an object of the invention to provide a sportsmans towel which is simple, of inexpensive construction, which can be conveniently carried, discarded, replaced, and presents no laundering problem as well.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation illustrating use of the towel by a sportsman;
Fig. 2 a front elevation of towel per se;
Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 an enlarged detail of the towel and strap by which it may be carried;
Fig. 5 a similar view showing parts assembled; and
Fig. 6 a section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Briefly stated, the invention comprises a hand-size sportsmans towel of rectangular or other desired shape with a strap permanently or detachably applied thereto, such strap including a loop portion for engagement with a belt and then detachably applied permitting ready use or removal and replacement of a fresh towel in order that the soiled towel may be laundered independenfly of the strap and thereby have no element that might harm other articles or apparatus during the laundry operation.
With continued reference to the drawings, a towel 10 of rectangular or other desired shape may have a hem 11 around the margin to serve as a reinforcement for the same. In order that the towel may be easily and conveniently carried by a sportsman, a suitable strap 12 may be permanently or detachably secured thereto as illustrated in the several figures of the drawing. Where the strap is permanently secured to the towel, this may be done by rectangular cross-stitching 13 as illustrated in Fig. 2, thus securing the strap 12 to the towel in the manner that it cannot be detached without removing the stitching.
The strap 12 is folded over to provide a loop 14 held in place by a snap-fastener of male and female parts 15 and 16 so that the loop may fit over a belt 17. With this construction, towel and strap are fastened together,
and by inserting the strap around the belt and fastening the parts 15 and 16 constituting the snap-fastener the towel may be secured to the belt of the wearer, and by separating the parts of the snap-fastener, the device may be removed by the wearer.
As illustrated in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 towel 10 may be provided parallel loop receiving eyelets 18, adjacent the corner of the towel and as illustrated in Fig. 6 a strap 19 is provided with a pair of snap fasteners including male portions 20 for cooperative engagement with female portions 21. The upper portion of the strap is folded over to form a loop for receiving a belt 17 and the lower portion is folded over and extended through eyelets 18 to fasten the towel to the strap and to the belt to the wearer.
It is therefore apparent that there is provided a towel of simple and inexpensive character with a carrying strap by means of which the towel may be easily carried, laundered, or discarded, or readily replaced, and thereby eliminate the necessity of consciousness of its presence during its use.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and the scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A sportsmans towel comprising a towel having at least one corner with reinforced edges and of a size for suspension from the waist of a wearer without interfering with activity of wearer, said towel having two slits therein arranged in side by side relation in the material of the towel near said corner thereof so that when the towel is folded between said slits said slits will register, a strap for encircling a belt of the wearer and of a width for passing through the slits whereby the towel can be secured to the strap and thereby to the belt of the wearer, quickly releasable means at one end of the strap and at a point intermediate the ends of the strap for securing said end of the strap to the intermediate point whereby the slits of the towel may be impaled on said strap and the towel releasably retained by the loop formed when said releasable fastening means are connected, a second quickly releasable fastening means secured to the other end of the strap and a second cooperating releasable fastening means for engagement with said second releasable fastening means to form a loop for detachable engagement around the belt of a person without requiring unfastening of the belt whereby the towel may be readily removed.
