2 Claims. (Cl. 240-4) This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in illuminated smoking stands and has for its principal object the provision of a fixture of this character which will be both decorative and practical.

Another object of the invention of equal importance is to provide a smoking stand which is characterized by the inclusion of an illuminated bowl formed of translucent material serving to conceal from view the lower portions of accessories extending into the bowl and supported by a translucent top plate for such bowl.

Another object of my invention is to plan the details of construction of my improved smokers stand in such a way that permits manufacture and assembly with the minimum degree of labor and cost.

Yet another and equally important object of my invention is the provision of a simplified construction for supporting lamp bearing sockets and an electric plug with respect to a translucent bowl in a manner such that very little wiring is exposed exterior of the bowl beneath the bottom wall thereof.

A still further object of the invention is the provision in an illuminated smoking stand of a translucent bowl having a removable top supporting various accessories, for example ash trays, cigarette holders and a lighter, and which top is removable to permit convenient access to the interior of the bowl for placement and replacement of electric bulbs confined within the bowl.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved illuminated smoking stand;

Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same;

Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line 33 of Fig. 2;

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a support for an electric plug and electric sockets; and

Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional detail view taken substantially on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.

The several objects of my invention are preferably accomplished by the preferred form of construction shown in the accompanying drawings.

The construction there shown comprises a base formed of suitable material and having extending upwardly therefrom a pedestal 11 formed of transparent material and having arranged therein an electric bulb 12 in circuit with a suitable power source by means of a plug 13, and in which circuit is arranged a switch 14. Above the pedestal 11 is a conduit 15. Supported from the base 10 by a spider plate 16 is a standard 17 in the form of a hollow pipe. This standard 17 has a threaded upper portion which is threaded into a fixture 18 having lateral openings 19 for the passage of conductor wires 20. Between this fixture 18 and the conduit is a bracket 21 having a central opening 22 through which the threaded portion of the standard 17 projects.

Threaded into the upper end portion 23 of the fixture 18 is a nipple 24. This nipple 24 projects through an opening 25 formed centrally in the bottom wall 26 of a bowl 27. There is preferably disposed between the bottom wall 26 of the bowl 27 and the fixture 18 a soft washer 28.

The bowl 27 has an open top which is closed by a relatively flat tray 29. Both the bowl and the tray 29 are formed of translucent material and of a color most desirable for decorative purposes.

The top edge of the open top of the bowl 27 provides a seat 30 for the tray 29.

The tray 29 has an opening 31 through which the upper end portion of the nipple 24 projects. Threaded to this upper end portion of the nipple 24 is an ornamental cap 32 likewise formed of a desirable color and translucent material. The cap 32 is threaded to bear upon the tray 29, and through the cap 32 such tray and bowl 27 are connected to the nipple 24. Beneath the cap 32 is a soft washer 32'.

The tray 29 is provided with a plurality of openings 33 radially disposed about the central axis thereof. In these openings are adapted to be positioned for support by the tray, smoker accessories, such for example, ash trays 34, a cigarette holder 35, and a lighter 36.

The lighter 36 has a reduced base 37 which snugly fits into its respective opening as shown in Fig. 3. The electric cord to this lighter is of the self-contained type, that is, such cord comprises a section 38 which after being expanded will return to its original position as shown in Fig. 3. This permits the lighter 36 to be con veniently removed and returned to its position upon the tray 29, the cord section 38 automatically resuming its original position within the bowl 17. Such cord has attached at its opposite end portion a plug 39 which is adapted to be projected into a socket 44) carried by an arm 41 extending laterally from the plate 21. The cord extends through an opening 42 formed in the bottom 26 of the bowl.

There are formed in the bottom of the bowl 27 spaced openings 43 into which project the upper end portions of lamp sockets 44. These lamp sockets carry electric bulbs 45. It is by means of these electric bulbs 45 that the bowl 27 is illuminated.

The ornamental cap 32 carries a handle 46 which facilitates carrying and moving the stand about.

It is intended that the circuit to the bulbs 12 and 45 be such that the bulb 12 may be illuminated with or independent of the bulbs 45 and the bulbs 45 may be illuminated with or independent of the bulb 12. I have not disclosed this circuit as any approved circuit may be used for the purpose.

In order to locate the portions of the accessories which are concealed within the bowl with respect to the electric bulbs 45 and prevent their contacting and damaging such bulbs, I provide at predetermined points on the seat 30 upstanding lugs 47 which engage in notches 48 formed in the peripheral edge of the tray 29.

From the foregoing it will be apparent that I have provided an illuminated smoking stand which is novel in construction; one in which the otherwise exposed parts of accessories are concealed and one which when illuminated will present a pleasing and decorative appearance.

The plan of construction is such that the smoking stand comprises the minimum number of parts and may be manufactured at an economical cost.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. 7

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. An illuminated smoking stand comprising a standard, a bracket horizontally disposed at one end of the standard and having end portions extending laterally on opposite sides of the standard, a fixture threaded on said one end of said standard, a translucent hollow circular bowl having a bottom wall provided withta central opening and havinga tray covering its opentop with said tray having a central opening corresponding to and in open communication with the opening of said bottom wall, a nipple extending through the openings of said bottom wall and said tray and threaded into one'end of said fixture, electric socket elements carried by the laterally extending end portions of said bracket on opposite sides of said standard, the bottom wall of said bowl having openings to either sideor" the central opening and into which the upper portions of said sockets project, electric bulbs carried by said sockets within the interior of said bowl, and a cap threaded upon the opposite end of the nipple for connecting said tray covering and said bowl to said ing sockets" carried'at the opposite end portions of'said bracket and projected through said openings intov said bowl, a nipple extending through the bottom wall of said bowl and said'tray top, a'fixture connecting said'nipple to said standard for supporting said bowl in spaced relation to said bracket, and a cap threaded upon the opposite end of said nipple and bearing on said tray top to secure said tray top and said bowl to said nipple between said fixture and said cap.
