1 Claim. (Cl. 248-354) This invention relates to improvements in shoring devices and more particularly to a novel shoring device of a type including a tubular member with an adjustable support.
An object of the invention is to provide a strong and quickly adjustable support for shoring timbers as used in the construction of concrete oor forms and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide adjustable means in a slotted tubular support for a shoring timber.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of a shoring device embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a front View partly in elevation and partly in vertical section, of the device.
Fig. 3 is a View taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of one of the support members.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral refers to a square metal tube of suitable length, having the solid walls 11 and 12 and the slotted walls 13 and 14.
The walls 13 and 14 are slotted as at 15 for the greater portion of their lengths, and each slot as at 15 cornprises a succession of relatively narrow, parallel sided portions as at 16, with the enlarged portions, arcuate on each side at the top as at 17 and 18 and characterized at the bottom by the rounded depressions at each end as at 19 and 20.
A support member 21 is comprised of a rectangular plate 22 provided with underlying parallel rods 23 and 24 axed securely thereto. The rods 23 and 24 have enlarged ends 25 to aid in securely seating the support member 21 within the tube 10 at any selected position in the slot 15. Handle members 26 are provided to enable a user to turn the support member 21 so that it may be moved vertically to a selected position in the tube 10. The position suitable for Vertical movement of the support member 21 is indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
The handle portions 26 are continuations of the rods 23 and 24. In Fig. 4, a modied form of support mem- ICC ber 27 is comprised of a plate member 28 provided with the underlying rods 29 and 30 with the enlarged ends 31. The elements 31 have the same function as the elements 25 in the preferred form in that such parts are disposed exteriorly of the tube 10 when the support member 21 is seated and prevent lateral dislodging of said support member.
A screw jack 32 is equipped with a square block 33 bored and threaded at 34 and provided with the marginal ledge 35 for support of the tube 10.
in use, the timber 36 is placed in the tube 10, with the support member 21 set in the slots 15 at the proper height, and the jack 32 is adjusted for final tightening of the assembly under the work, such as forms for concrete floors. The handle members 26 permit of rapid adjustment of the support members in the slots 15 of the tubes 10.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In a shoring device, an elongated square metal tube having a pair of longitudinally extending slots in opposed sides of said tube, a plurality of longitudinally-spaced pairs of aligned horizontal ledges extending outwardly from said slots, a semi-circular recess at the outer edge of each of said ledges, a plurality of pairs of opposed lateral enlargements each dened by a wall extending upwardly and inwardly from the outer edge of each of said recesses to said vertical slot, a plate member for supporting a shoring timber within said tube, transverse rod portions affixed under said plate member and adapted to seat in said recesses, and arcuate rod handle portions joining the ends of said rod portions on each side, said lateral enlargements being of such a size as to allow rotation of said plate to a vertical position without removal from said tube.
