the vise, adjustable means for holding the tripod rigidly in position wherever it may be set.
The object of the invention is to save time, annoyance, and inconvenience in pipe-fitting or pipe-cutting jobs.
At present it is often found necessary to carry the Work to a shop to be cut and fitted because of the impossibility or inconvenience of finding a suitable vise-mount at the place where the work is being done. Often when a place is found which-is strong enough to support a pipevise pipe of desired length cannot be worked on because of the lack of space, and generally a portable vise requires a stout and rigid support, which frequently cannot be found in an accessible or convenient place.
The object of my invention is to remedy these defects and inconveniences by provid ing a pipe mount or stand which can be set up practically anywhere and rigidly held while the work is being done. The device will be found particularly useful in working in cellars or basements, where most steam or water fitting jobs are done.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a side elevation of the mount, illustrating its use between a fioor and ceiling. Fig. 2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the mount secured to the floor or ground.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a bed or table upon which the vise 7 is supported. Any other implement maybe supported in the same manner, the table being provided with a number of holes 8 for clamping-bolts and the like. The table is supported upon three legs 9, hinged thereto, so as to fold into a small space for carrying.
In cellar-work or between floors the mount may be held in position by acompression device located between the top of the table and the ceiling, said device consisting of a tube 10, having at the bottom a foot 11, which rests on the table, and two rods 12 and 13, the upper of which has a head 14, adapted to bear against the ceiling. The rod 12 is slidablc for adjustment in the tube 10 and is fixed at adjustment by a setscrew 15. The meeting ends of the rods are right and left threaded to receive a turnbuckle 16, whereby the pressure may be applied.
In use, as illustrated in Fig. 1, thetripod is set upon the floor and the adjustable thrust device is placed upon the table and extended until its head comes against a joist or beam in the ceiling. A few turns of the turnbuckle then binds the mount in rigid and fixed position, so that a solid and immovable support for the vise or other implement is afforded.
For use upon a floor or sidewalk a tension device is'provided consisting of two rods 17 and 18, the former of which is connected to an eyebolt 19, under the table, and the latter of which is connected to a screw-hook 20, driven into the floor or into a crack in the sidewalk or pavement, or, if necessary, into a wooden stake driven into the ground. The rods 17 and 18 are threaded for the turnbuckle 21, and the obvious effect of the use of the tension device is to anchor the tripod in place for the purposes indicated.
The mount and its attachments are capable of being transported anywhere and will obviously be of great convenience and save time and labor, which would otherwise be em ployed in running back and forth to the shop or to a fixed bench.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a portable mount comprising a table and folding legs, of an adjustable clamping-bar connected to the table and adapted to bind the same upon its support.
2. The combination with a portable mount for viscs and thelike, of an adjustable clamping device resting at one end on the mount and extensible to the ceiling for compression against the same.
3. The combination with a portable mount for tools,'of an extensible screw-rod resting at its lower end on the mount and extending upwardly therefrom, for compression against the ceiling.
4. The combination With a portable mount, to this specification in the presence of two Subof a telescoping tube and rod resting at the scribing Witnesses. lower end on the mount and extending upwardly therefrom, the rod being formed of EVERETT WARD 5 screw-threaded sections connected by a turn- Witnesses:
