In a known arrangement the body of the brush is of solid construction having a closed back recessed at the front to receive and position the bristled stock, transverse screw devices operating between the back and the stock to clamp the position.

The invention relates exclusively to a toilet brush of' ornamental kind in which a composite brush body is built up and secured rigidly within a boundary frame of channel cross section and which is usually of l-igree patterning, said frame being provided by a single strip of material and it is the purpose of the invention to provide a specic combination of parts resulting in a very practical arrangement of such a brush body and adapted to receive, detachably, a bristled stock secured thereto by such transverse screw devices.

lt has been proposed to build-up rigidly a hand mirror assembly within a boundary frame of channel cross section formed by a single strip of material, composite packing layers and a rigid carrier member provided with a rigid handle being included in the frame to give it rigidity, said member abutting rigidly against the packing layers.

The invention provides a brush of the kind referred to but in which the rigid body or back, bound within the channel cross sectioned frame, includes a recessed carrier-member adapted to receive, removably, the bristled stock of the brush which is shaped to the recess for accurate location therein, said stock being secured in its located position within said recess by screwthreaded devices operative transversely through the stock and with engagement of the recessed carrier member.

The recess of the carrier member receives the bristled stock and locates it within the body or back, instead of the sides of the thin metal frame overlying the boundary of said stock as ordinarily, so that not only can the thickness dimensions of the frame be reduced, which is of importance for many reasons, but the bristled stock can be detached from the brush body or back without any interference with the tightly closed thin metal channel sectioned frame.

It is desirable that the screwthread devices shall be provided against accidental loss, or being mislaid, and therefore, a screwthreaded boss is provided upon the recessed carrier-member and a captive screwthreaded screw pin upon the stock.

As the invention is particularly applicable to a toilet hair brush of the kind used by ladies, and which has a straight handle coplanar with the bound-together back or body, the invention will now be described in connection therewith.

In the drawingsthe. .thin metal boundary .frame 2 is of channel crosssection,fopening at 3 for 'its lapplication to the boundary edges of a composite brush back 4, the front 5 and rear 6 of the. frame 2' being both open as illustrated.

Thehack 4 is built up. of layers shaped and sized to the boundary framel, the layer 4a `being, decorative such vas of ,imitation petit-point, the, layers 4b of cardboard packing, and ,the layers 4c `and- 4d of metal, the latter 4d, providing a rigidmarrier member having a recess 7 `and .anexternal v'boundary flangel 7a,` the recess being adapted to receive, in close fit, the boundary edges 8a of a bristled stock 8 provided with a captive rotatable screw pin 9 directed transversely through the stock for engagement with a screw nut or boss 10 extending laterally from the carrier member 4d at an approximately middle position thereof, -the back of the stock 8 being recessed at 8b to accommodate the nut or boss 10.

The layer 4c is a at rigid plate from which extends rigidly the rod 12 by which the tubular handle 13 s applied to the frame 2 to hold said frame closed rigidly on to the boundary edges of the back 4, said handle being held to the rod 12 and to the frame 2 by the clamping nut 14 screwing on to the end of the rod and operating against the handle end. The layer 4c, rod 12, tubular handle 13 and the operation of these parts are well known and are claimed only in combination with other characteristic features as clearly defined herein.

It will be clearly understood that the carrier member layer 4d is by its ange 7a bound rigidly in the body or back 4 by the boundary frame 2, and that it is recessed at 7 to receive an easy but accurate t of the stock S, and that the screw pin 9 passes transversely through -the stock and is captive thereto and functions only with the nut or boss 10 to hold the stock in the recess 7, these features being the essential ones of the invention as shown and described with reference to the drawing.

We claim:

l.. Toilet brush of the kind referred to and in which a composite body or back is bound rigidly within a channel cross-sectioned frame, the combination therewith of a carrier member having a shaped recess included wholly within the frame as a rigid part of said body or back, and a bris-tled brush stock shaped to the recess of the carrier member and tting therein, removably, for accurate location and secured therein detachably by screwthread devices operative transversely through the stock and by engagement with the recess of the carrier member.

A toilet brush of the kind referred to comprising a composite brush back consisting of at layers held together by a boundary metal frame of channel cross section and one layer of which is a rigid carrier member provided with a shaped recess having a screw-threaded boss, and a bristled brush stock shaped to the recess and fitting therein removably for location and having through it a transverse screwthreaded pin engaging the boss of the member to secure the stock within the recess.

A toilet hair brush of the kind described, combining a composite brush back consisting of layers held together by an open-ended boundary metal frame of channel cross-section and forming parts of which back are a rigid and recessed 'carrier member provided with a transverse screwthreaded boss, and also a rigid handle and back supporting plate having a projecting rod which is coplanar with said back, a tubular handle-threaded over the rod and secured thereto and to the boundary frame to close said frame by screw devices operative between the outer ends of the rod and the handle, and a bristled stock fitting detachably within the recess of the carrier member for location, said stock being provided with a transverse screw pin to engage the boss of the carrier member to thereby secure the bristled stock within the recess, substantially as described.

A brush of the kind described, comprising a rigid boundary frame of channel cross section formed by a single strip of material and normally open at back and front, composite packing layers secured rigidly at their boundary edges within the channel so as to close the back thereof, a rigid carrier member provided with a shaped recess on its outer surface and at the boundary of the recess with a rigid flange which is secured rigidly within the channel so that the member abuts against the packing layers and its recess alone closes the open front of the frame, said recess being provided with a central screw threaded boss and a detachable bristled stock t- 4 ting within the recess for location, and having a transverse screw pin engaging the boss to clamp the located stock to said body in a detachable manner.

5. A brush according to claim 4, and in which a rigid back plate having a handle supporting rod is also included within the embracing channel section frame, and a tubular handle is secured over the rod to be supported thereby and to embrace ends of the frame.
