1 Claim. (Cl. 15229) This invention relates to new and improved mop constructions and the principal object of the invention resides in the provision of a double ended mop including a pair of mop holders or heads held in spaced relation by a bridge member on which the mop yarns are absent, said bridge member providing a new and improved handle connection for the mop heads.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a double ended mop as above described for more etficient dust removal either by manual shaking or by actuation in the machine according to my Patent No. 2,230,356, dated February 4, 1941.

A further object of this invention resides in a new and improved mop head and holding means for the mop yarns in combination with a new and improved mop handle connection.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the new mop, parts being in section;

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the mop handle connection;

Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and

Fig. 4 is a section On line 4-4 of Fig. 2.

The present invention comprises a pair of mop heads each of which consists of a rectangular enclosure generally indicated at and 12. These enclosures may be made of channel members as clearly shown in Fig. 3, each of which is provided with an open bottom at 14 and side members 16. A rubber bumper member 17 may be secured to the latter. Fasteners 18 extend from one arm 16 to the other in each enclosure, beneath rods 20 over which the mop yarns 22 are looped and closely engaged by means of wire twists or the like securing the yarns to the rods 20. In Figs. 2 and 3, these yarns are shown as not being full in order to illustrate the invention more clearly. Actually the mop yarns are very full as indicated in Fig. 1.

10 and 12 in parallel spaced condition and it will be clear that when the bridge part 24 is rapidly oscillated about an axis extending transversely thereof in the direction of the handle receiving sleeve 28, the yarns will receive the maximum agitating action possible and thus will be cleaned more easily and quickly, than would be the case were the mop heads so arranged as to extend across the center in the position of the bridge 24. This action may be done manually or in the machine disclosed in the above identified patent.

34 and 36 of a square elongated tubular member 38. The latter contains a square stud 40 held thereto by a square washer 42 overlapping the side edges 44 of the square tubular member 38 and secured to the stud 40 by a fastener 46.

The stud 40 has secured fixedly thereto and longitudinally thereof a shaft 48 which may be mounted in bearings 50 in a sleeve 52 and in sleeve 28, there being a gap as at 54 between the sleeves. This gap receives a gear 56 secured to the shaft 48. The gap 54 is bridged by a member 58 which secures the two

The eflect of this construction is that the shaft 48 is rotatable in the sleeves.

A handle 60 may be secured in any desired manner as by a pin 62 to sleeve 28. Handle 60 is used in the usual manner to manipulate the mop for its usual purposes.

Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed otherwise than as set forth in the claim, but what I claim is:

A mop head comprising a pair of spaced elongated parallel mop heads in fixed relation to each other, a transverse channel shaped bridge connecting the heads and securing and spacing the same in said fixed relation, each mop head comprising a separate channel member each having closed side walls and one open side, said open sides facing in the same direction, a rod passing through each channel, mop filaments looped over the rods and held in position by the channel walls, and extending out of the channels through the open sides thereof.
