MOP-HANDLE-CLAMPING DEVICE.
Application led January 26, 1927. Serial No. 168,644.
This invention relates to improvements in mops, and has for one of its principal objects the provision'of means in a mop providing for a selective mounting of thel mop head with relation to the handle thereof, whereby all sides or operative surfaces of the mop may be used with equal results, thereby eliminating undue wear at any certain portion.
Another important object of this invention is to provide, in a means for connecting a mop handle to a mop head, elements a1- lowing of the elevation or depression of the mop handle with relation to the mop head throughout a certain radius, so as to automatically adjust the `device to persons of different stature, and also allowmg of operation of the mop itself in places otherwise difficult of access.
Other and further important robjects of the invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings -and following specification.
The invention, in a preferred form, is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved mop of this invention.

As shown in the drawings:
The reference numeral 10 indicates generally a mop head mounted upon a frame or support 12 of metal wire or the like, and which for the purposes of this invention is triangular in form.
The middle portion of the wirel frame member 12 is bent inwardly and thence upwardly, as shown at 14 in Figures 1 and 2, to provide a triangular element to which the end of the handle 16 of the mop is attached. It will be noted that each of the sides of this triangular element 14 is of approximately equal length, so as to accommodate the gripping elements 18 mounted on the end of the handle 6.
These gripping elements are in the form of semi-cylindrical plates adapted to embrace the lower end of the handle 6, and with at least one of their ends bent downwardly and thence upwardly, as best shown at 2() in Figures 1, 3, and 4, suitable grooves being provided for the reception of the brace elements 14. A bolt 24 provided with a winged nut 26 is provided for readily fastening the handle to the mop head frame.
The extending flanges 2O and 22 limitthe relation of movement of the mop handle 6 to the mop hea-d, and only one of these may be provided, as shown in Figure 1, but, as illustrated in Figure 3, two of such flanges are preferable, the spacing of same allowing of a free radius of motion of suitable extent.
The handle 6 may be held in a fixed angular relation with the head 10 by a sufficient tightening of the wing nut 26, or the nut may be loosened to such a degree that the handle is easily rota-table about the axis 14, in the grooves of the clamping elements. This permits of a freedom of action which renders this Ydevice particularly useful.
It will be seen that herein is provided a mop head construction which insures a greater useful life for the mop member by allowing of a ready altering of the position of the handle, presenting first one and then another portion of the mop head to the position of principal wear.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of Construction varied throughout a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purposey limit` ing the patent granted herein otherwise than as necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. A mop, including a frame, a handle pivotally mounted thereon, and means for removably attaching the handle to the mop head in a plurality of positions, said means comprising a bar bent in triangular form, said bar extending upwardly from, and forming an integral portion of the mop head frame.
2. A mop construction, including a mop head and a handle removably pivotally mounted thereon, attaching elements between the handle and the mop head, said attaching elements comprisingr a bar shaped in 5 an open triangular form extending upwardly from the mop head, clamping `elements on the end of the handle manually operated
