COMBINED GUFF HOLDER AND SLEEVE BUTTON.
No. 272,240.. Patented Feb. 13, 18-83.
WITNESSES: Y
\ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. HAGKETT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED CUFF-HOLDER AND SLEEVE-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,240, dated February 13,1883.
' Application filed November 17, 1882. (No model.)
vation of the same, the sleeve, wristband, and
cuff being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the improvement.
The object of this invention is to promote convenience in securing, adjusting, and detaching cuffs.
The invention consists in a combined cuffholder and sleeve-button constructed with a U-shaped spring, having its outer arm curved outward at its end and having the inner arm, near its end, attached to the stem of a sleevebutton, wherebya cuff can be readily attached, adjusted, and removed, and will be securely held, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A is a U-shaped spring, the arms of which are formed so as to rest against or nearly against each other when left free. The outer arm of the spring A is preferably made shorter than the inner arm, and is curved outward slightly, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the edge of the cuff can be readily slipped in between. the arms of the spring.
To the rear side of the inner arm of the spring A, at a little distance from its end, is secured the end of a stem, B, to the other end of which is secured the head 0 of a sleeve-button. The button-head C may be made in circular form, with a circular recess in one side, and, attached at a point midway between the deepest point of its recess and its circumference to the end of the stem B. One point of the head 0 is bent inward, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the said head can be passed through a button-hole in either direction by inserting its straight point in the said button-hole, and then turning the said head by swinging the holder around the stem B; or the head 0 may be made in the form of a'short bar, or in any other desired form.
In using the improvement, the button is passed through the button-holes of the wristband and the holder is swung around with the ends of its arms toward the hand. The ends of the cufi" are then overlapped, and the inner side edges of the said overlapped ends are placed upon the projecting end of the inner arm of the said holder, and are pressed into the space between the arms of the saidholder, where they will be held securely by the elasticity of the spring.
With this improvement the cuff can be adjusted to project more or less by pressing it into the holderG to a greater or less distance.
With this improvement, also, the cuff can be taken off and put on without its being necessary for the wearer to take off his coat.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new andde'sire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A combined cuff-holder and sleeve-button made substantially as herein shown and de scribed, and consisting of the U-shaped spring having its outer arm curved outward at its end and having the inner arm'near its end attached to the stem of a sleeve-button, whereby the cuff can be readily attached, adjusted, and removed, and will be securely held, as set forth.
2. The combination of a U-shaped spring,-
