2 Claims. (Cl. 30--200) This invention relates to a clipper comb, and has for one of its objects the production of a simple and efficient clipper comb which may be quickly attached to and detached from, a conventional electrical hair clipper.

A further object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient clipper comb which may be yieldably clamped upon a conventional electrical clipper so that the clipper comb may be readily removed from the clipper when so desired.

Other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughout the following specification and claims.

By referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 10 designates a conventional electrical hair clipper having a conventional clipper head 11. The head 11 is provided with a heel portion 12 at the rear thereof. The present invention, however, relates to a detachable clipper comb shown in detail in Figures 5 and 6, which clipper comb is adapted to snap on and to clamp firmly upon the clipper head of any conventional type of electrical hair clipper without the necessity for connecting screws or other separate securing elements.

The clipper comb comprises a body 13 which is preferably formed of plastic or other suitable material. The body 13 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending laterally spaced teeth 14. The teeth 14 are provided with convex or downwardly bowed under faces 15 extending from the rear of the body to the front ends 16 of the teeth 14, thereby providing a rocker-like under face for the body 13. This rocker-like under face will facilitate the movement over the scalp and permit the clipper and comb to be rocked back and forth to adjust the length of the cut. It is known that clipper combs have been attached to electric clippers for the purpose of obtaining short of Butch hair cuts, but difficulty and inconvenience have resulted from the manner of attach ing the clipper comb to the clipper.

It will be noted that each tooth 14 is provided with a fiat forward upper face having a downwardly and forwardly inclined notch 17 rearwardly spaced from the front end 16 of each tooth to receive the front ends of the conventional guards 18 of the clipper 10. The cutter blade 19 operates in spaced relation rearwardly of the notches 17 of the respective teeth as shown in Figure 3, so that the cutter blade may freely operate. The comb 14 carries a fiat retaining plate 20 upon its upper face and is slidably mounted thereon by means of a pin 21 which fits through the elongated forwardly extending slot 22. The plate 20 is adapted to move forwardly and rearwardly of the body 13. The plate 20 is provided with upturned ears 23 at its rear edge, which ears are adapted to abut or grip the rear face of the heel portion 12 of the clipper head 11, as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4. Coil springs 24 are anchored at their inner ends Within the sockets 25 formed within the body 13 and these coil springs 24 are attached at their outer ends over the rear edge of the plate 20 adjacent the respective ears 23. Any type of spring may be used to yieldably mount the plate in position within the scope of the invention. The springs 24 hold the plate under tension when the plate 20 is pulled rearwardly upon the body 13 to place the ears in gripping engagement with the heel portion 12 of the clipper head 11.

From the foregoing description it will be obvious that the clipper comb may be easily attached to the clipper by fitting the ears 23 of the retractable plate 20 over or in contact with the rear face of the heel of the clipper head and then snapping the notches 17 of the clipper comb over the guard teeth 18 of the clipper 10. The tension of the springs 24 will hold the comb in a firm position upon the clipper head without danger of accidental displacement and without the necessity for providing auxiliary securing elements. The comb may be easily detached from the clipper head by releasing the notches 17 from the guard teeth 18 and consequently releasing the cars 23 from the heel portion 12. A forward pull upon the comb will accomplish this result. The comb may therefore be quickly and easily snapped into and out of engagement with the clipper head.

It should be understood that certain detail changes may be made in the structure illustrated and described within the spirit of the invention, so long as these changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:

1. A detachable clipper comb of the class described comprising a body having a plurality of spaced longitudinally extending teeth, a tension held clamping plate slidably mounted upon said body and movable forwardly and rearwardly of said body, springs carried by said body and engaging said plate thereby providing a tension means for said plate, said teeth having guard teeth engaging means spaced forwardly of said plate, and clipper head engaging means carried by said plate.

2. A detachable clipper comb of the class described comprising a body having a plurality of spaced longitudinally extending teeth, a tension held clamping plate slidably mounted upon said body and movable forwardly and rearwardly of said body, said clamping plate having a slot, an anchoring pincarried by said body and passing through said slot for anchoring said plate to said body, said teeth having guard teeth engaging means spaced forwardly of said plate, and clipper head engaging means carried by said plate.
