Description

Patented Mar. 6, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CLIPPER ATTACHMENT Henry 0. Scott, Mitchell, S. Dak.
Application November 9, 1949, Serial No. 126,332
Claims. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for hair clippers for cutting the hair at a uniform length to produce a hair style known as a crew out.
An important object of the invention is to provide an attachment for hair clippers which functions as a cutting gauge to cut the hair a. uniform length and which may be easily and quickly attached in position on a clipper without necessitating any changes or alterations in the construction thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this character including a frame having forwardly extending inclined pick up teeth and providing means carried by the frame for holding a hair clipper in a vertically or transversely adjusted position in the frame.
A further object is to provide an attachment of this character that is simple and practical in construction, which is efiicient and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the attachment;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View showing the attachment secured to a hair clipper;
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of a slidable clipper engaging clamp; and,
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figurel and showing the vertical adjusting means for the clipper holder.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a substantially U-shaped frame including a base portion 6 with end Walls 1 arising from the ends thereof.
A plurality of teeth 8 project forwardly from the front edge of base 6 and end walls 1, the teeth having curved lower edges 9 and upwardly sloping or inclined upper edges it which rise above the base 6 at the rear end of the teeth. The teeth are tapered to a substantially pointed front end II.
The base 6 is formed with a transversely ex- 2 tending channel l2 in its upper surface rearwardly of the rear end of teeth 8 and in which a channel-shaped member [3 is positioned, the channel member being formed with inwardly projecting flanges M at its upper portion.
A slide i5 is slidably positioned in channel member l3 and is formed at its ends with upwardly and inwardly curved tongues l6 for clamping the side edges of a hair clipper H in position on top of frame 5.
The end walls I are formed at their inner surfaces with vertical channels l8 aligned with channel [2, the vertical channels I8 being formed with vertically spaced apart horizontal grooves l9 for selectively receiving a rod 26 held in a notch 2| at the end of channel member l3 to support the channel member IS in vertically adjusted position in the end walls 1 whereby to raise or lower clipper I! in the frame 5.
In the operation of the device, the clipper I1 is attached to frame 5 by tongues [B of slide I5 with the front edge of the clipper positioned closely behind teeth 8. The teeth lift the hair as the device is moved over a persons head to thus cut the hair a uniform length by the clipper.
The length of the hair may be regulated by adjusting channel member it of slide I5 vertically in channel l2.
The slide i5, with the clipper attached thereto may also be moved from side to sidein channel member B to facilitate cutting along either side of the head.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A hair clipper attachment comprising a frame, teeth projecting from one edge of the frame, and a clamp slidably carried by the frame for attaching a clipper thereto for slidable adjustment of the clipper transversely of the teeth.
2. A hair clipper attachment comprising a frame, teeth projecting fromv one edge of the frame, a clamp slidably carried by the frame for attaching a clipper thereto for adjustment of the clipper transversely of the teeth, and means securing the clamp in vertically adjusted position on the frame.
3. A hair clipper attachment comprising a frame, teeth projectin from one edge of the frame, a channel-shaped guide on the frame, means securing the guide in vertically adjusted position in the frame, a slide in the guide, and means carried by the slide for attaching a clipper thereto.
4. A hair clipper attachment comprising a frame, teeth projecting from one edge of the frame, a channel-shaped guide on the frame, and
positioned transversely behind the teeth, means securing the guide in vertically adjusted position in the frame, a slide in the guide, and clamping means carried by the slide for attaching a clipper thereto.
5. A hair clipper attachment comprising a frame, teeth projecting from one edge of the frame, a channel-shaped guide on the frame, and
4 positioned transversely behind the teeth, means securing the guide in vertically adjusted position in the frame, a slide in the guide, and upwardly curved clamping tongues at the ends of the slide 5 for attaching a clipper thereto.
