Description

GIRDLE OF DEPOSITED LATEX WITH DETACHABLE ACCESSORIES Filed Sept. 1 1951 United States Patent GIRDLE OF DEPOSITED LATEX WITH DETACHABLE ACCESSORIES Stig E. Rosenberg, Brockton, Mass.
Application September 1, 1951, Serial No. 244,815
2 Claims. (Cl. 2-33) This invention relates to improvements in girdles of deposited latex which are made by dipping a suitable form one or more times into a bath of prepared liquid latex having therein vulcanizing agents, accelerators, pigments, fillers, and other such added ingredients as may be desired. Girdles of this type are well known and in wide use. It may be desirable to have a girdle with a crotch piece attached thereto or to have a girdle with garters attached thereto or to have a girdle with both a crotch piece and a set of garters. According to the present invention, such a girdle is provided with detachable pendent accessories so that a single girdle may be worn by itself or with a crotch piece or with garters or with both a crotch piece and garters, the accessories being readily attachable to and detachable from the girdle itself. Since girdles of this type are easily torn, I preferably reinforce small areas of the lower margin of the girdle so that detachable pendent accessories can be attached thereto without undue danger of tearing out the fastening elements when strain is put on the pendent accessories. As hereinafter described, different kinds of fastening means may be employed to secure such accessories detachably to the girdle.
For a more complete understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following description of certain embodiments thereof and to the drawing of which Figure l is a front elevation of a girdle having a number of snap fastener elements mounted in the lower margin thereof;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, on a larger scale;
Figure 3 is an elevation of a garter having at its upper end a snap fastener element adapted to engage one of those mounted on the girdle;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a crotch piece having snap fastener elements through its end portions adapted to engage complementary elements on the girdle;
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Figure 3, on a larger scale;
Figure 6 is a front elevation of a girdle similar to that shown in Figure 1 except that horizontal slits are provided below the snap fastener elements;
Figure 7 is a section on the line 7-7 of Figure 6, on a larger scale;
Figure 8 is a fragmentary front elevation of a girdle having a crotch piece detachably secured thereto by snap fasteners;
Figure 9 is a fragmentary front elevation of a girdle having a crotch piece and a set of garters detachably secured thereto by snap fasteners;
Figure 10 is a section on the line 10-10 of Figure 8, on a larger scale;
Figure 11 is a section on the line 11-11 of Figure 9, on a larger scale;
Figure 12 is a fragmentary section similar to Figure 11 but of a modified form of the invention;
Figure 13 is a fragmentary elevation of the lower portion of a dipped latex girdle having patches secured to the lower margin of the girdle with horizontal slits therethrough;
Figure 14 is an elevation of a dipping form for making girdles and accessories;
Figure 15 is a fragmentary section on the line 15-45 of Figure 14;
Figure 16 is a perspective view of a garter having a toggle element at its upper end for securing it detachably to a girdle;
2,795,798 Patented Apr. 12, 1955 Figure 17 is a perspective view of a reinforcing patch to be used with a girdle;
Figure 18 is a perspective view of a crotch piece having toggle elements at its ends for detachably securing it to a girdle; and
Figure 19 is a fragmentary section of a girdle wall to which is detachably secured a garter such as is shown in Figure 16.
A girdle 20 of deposited latex is shown in Figure 1, this girdle having a suitable number of snap fastener elements 22 secured to the lower margin of the girdle so as to be ready to engage and hold complementary fastener elements which may be snapped thereon. As indicated in Figure 2, each snap fastener element 22 extends through the wall of the girdle 20. In order to prevent the fastener elements from being readily pulled out when they are stressed, a reinforcing patch 24 of textile fabric, plastic sheet material, or an equivalent is embedded in or secured: to the wall of the girdle. If the form on which the model is made is dipped once or twice before the application of reinforcing patches 24 thereto, subsequent dipping opera-;
flush with the inner surface of the girdle as hereinafter de-, I
scribed.
A garter 26 is shown in Figure 3, having at the upper end thereof a fastener element 28, this element being complementary to the fastener elements 22 shown in Figures 1 and 2. If the garter strip 26 is of latex similar to the material of which the girdle itself is made, it is advisable to employ a reinforcing patch 30 as indicated in Figure 5, this patch being embedded in or permanently secured to a face of the strip so that the fastener elements 28 can project therethrough. Thus individual garters can be quickly attached to or detached from a girdle by means of the cooperating snap fastener elements 22 and 28.
Figure 4 shows a crotch piece 32 which is preferably of thin flexible material and which is provided with snap fastener elements 28 in its end portions. If needed oi" desired, reinforcing patches 30 may be embedded in or secured to a face of these end portions of the crotch piece so as to support the fastening elements 28 and prevent them from pulling out.
Figure 6 shows a girdle having horizontal slits 34 and 36 below the snap fastener elements 22. When attaching pendent accessories such as garters of a crotch piece to this gridle, the ends may be passed through the slits 34 and 36 from within so that the end portions of the accessories extend up from the slits against the outer face of the girdle. The snap elements 28 then are snapped onto the elements 22 on the girdle as indicated in Figure 11. In order to strengthen the girdle at the slits 34 and 36, the girdle may have lines of added thickness as indicated in Figure 7. To this end the form on which the girdle is made may be provided with short horizontal fins projecting out therefrom. The latex is held by surface tension in the angles between these fins and the body of the form so as to form beads of extra thickness as indicated at 38 in Figure 7. If desired, the girdle may have one or more additional slits parallel to the slits 34 and 36 so the pendent accessories can be threaded through the wall of the girdle two or more times as indicated in Figure 12.
Instead of the snap fasteners shown in Figures 1-12, I may employ a toggle type of fastening means which is simple, thin and effective. As shown in Figure 16, a toggle element 40 may be secured to the end of a garter strip 42 in any suitable manner. For example, the toggle element 40, which is made of any suitable thin material of sufficient rigidity, such as non-corrodible sheet metal, may be given two parallel cuts, the-band 42 between the lines being struck up from the plane of the toggle element. The end of the garter strip 42 is thrust under the band 43 which is thereupon pressed down to clamp Figure 1 shows patches and fastener the garter strip. To receive the toggle element 40, a horizontal slit 44 is provided in the lower margin of the girdle, one such slit being provided for each garter.
In order to prevent the material of the girdle from tearing at the slit 44, a suitable reinforcing patch 46 is mounted on the inner face of the girdle wall, the slit 44 passing through the patch 46 as well as through the girdle wall. The length of the slit 44 is slightly greater than the width of the garter strip 42. The toggle element 40 may be thrust through the slit 44, whereupon it catches against the inner face of the wall of the girdle as indicated in Figure 19. In order to receive a crotch piece 50 having toggle elements 52 of metal or the like secured to the ends thereof as hereinbefore described and as indicated in Figure 18, horizontal slits 54 are provided in the front and back walls of the girdle. Each of these slits is reinforced by a patch 56 which is embedded in or secured permanently to the inner face of the girdle wall. The ends of the crotch piece 50 are detachably secured to the girdle in the same manner as the upper ends of the garter strips 42 by thrusting the toggles 52 through the respective slits 54 so that they engage against the inner faces of the girdle wall.
A form 60 on which girdles may be made by dipping in liquid latex is illustrated in Figure 14. This form has an upper portion which is offset outwardly to provide shoulders 62 at the front and back faces of the form. When the form is dipped, latex is held by surface tension in the angles formed by the shoulders so that a reinforcing bead of extra thickness is provided along the lower margin of the girdle in a manner well known in the art. According to the present invention, the upper portion 64 of the form is provided with shallow recesses 66 and 68 having outlines corresponding to the contours of pendent accessories such as a crotch piece and garter strips. For example, the recess 66 is shaped to correspond to the contour of a crotch piece. The recesses 68, two of which are on the front face of the form and two of which are on the rear face, are shaped to form garter strips of suitable length and width. Before the form is dipped, patches 46 and 56 are adhesively applied to the surface of the form so that when the form is dipped, the patches will be covered by the successive films of latex which are picked up by the form in the successive clippings. In order to facilitate the application of patches to the form in the proper positions, the form preferably is provided with areas of distinguishing color where the pitches are to be applied or may be slightly recessed for the same purpose. This facilitates rapid and accurate application of patches to the form prior to dipping. If preferred, the form may be dipped once or twice before the patches are applied, in which case the patches will be embedded within the walls of the girdle.
I claim:
1. A girdle of deposited latex'having horizontal slits in the lower margin of its front and back walls, the areas around said slits on the inner face of the girdle having means applied thereto for reinforcing said slits, pendent members each having a portion extending through one of said reinforced slits, the width of each pendent member being substantially equal to the length of one of said slits and toggle elements having slots therein for receiving one end of each of said pendent members therethrough whereby the ends of said members will engage against one face of the girdle wall.
2. A girdle of deposited latex having horizontal slits in the lower margins of its front and back walls, the areas around said slits being reinforced, pendent members each having a portion extending through one of said reinforced slits, the width of each pendent member being substantially equal to the length of the slit through which it extends, and a toggle element secured to the upper end of each said pendent member, each said toggle element having a face of substantial area bearing against a face of the girdle wall.
