Description

(No ModeL) W. YOUNT.
PIANO STOOL. No. 270,273. Patented Jan. 9,1883.
w uuwssms Ym Qm'hn' UNiTED STATES PATENT Fries.
.WARREN YOUNT, OF TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND PETER N. STAFF, OF SAME PLACE.
PIANO-STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 270,273, dated January 9, 1883.
Application filed October 30, 1882. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that LWARREN YoUN'r, a citi- "zen of the United States of America. residing at Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Piano-Stools, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
TO My invention relates to piano-stools convertible into single or double stools; and it consists of a stool-seat in two parts, adjustable in the positions required for one person only, and for two persons by means of a supportingplate held ,in place by set-screws extended through it into slotted plates fastened to the under side of the seats. The supporting-plate is adapted to be connected centraliy with the stem of an ordinary piano-stool, so that the convertible seats .may be readily mounted upon any ordinary single pedestal, as hereinafter fully described.
1n the accompanying drawings, Figurel represents in perspective a stool having my improvement adjusted fora single stool. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the stool adjusted as a double stool. Fig. 3 is a plan of the under side, showing device adjusted for a single stool. Fig. 4 is an under side view, showing 0 device adjusted for a double stool. Fig. 5 is a crosssection on line :0 x of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a plan showing a certain form of adjustment of the device.
- A designates'the pedestal, provided with the feet A.
B is the seat, constructed in two parts, a a.
U is the supporting-plate, connected centrally, in the usual manner, with a stem adapted for connection with an ordinary piano- 0 stool pedestal.
D D indicate slotted plates, one being on each part a, let in flush with their under face, and fastened over slots formed in the seats, the proper size to receive the square heads or nuts 0 of the set-screws (1, extended through 5 the plate 0 and slots of the plates D, and providedwith the thumb-nuts d for holding the seats in the required positions. The inner ends of the slotted plates terminate about the horizontal center of the parts a a, and the outer 5o ends of these plates are inclined toward each other sufficiently to allow the parts a a of the seat to be adjusted in the different positions shown in the drawings.
When desirable for use for one person only 5 the seat is adjusted as shown in Fig. 1, and when for two persons as shown in Fig. 2. Another form of adjustment is shown in Fig. 6.
The invention is not necessarily limited to the particular construction and arrangement '60 of the devices shown and described, but any other suitable devices by which the seat may readily be adjusted in the different required positions may be employed.
This stool, being as described, adapted to he 6 used on any ordinary single pedestal, avoids the extra expenses of the construction of a double adjustable pedestal, and combines simplicity, lightness, security, durability, and cheapness; and it is evident that this stool may be used for seating stores, halls, theaters, 85c.
I elaimf The piano-stool seat B in the two parts a a, adjustable in the required positions for a single seat and for a double seat, and adapted to bemounted upon a'single pedestal by means a of the supporting-plate O, connected centrally with the stem of the stool, the slotted plates D D, and the set-screws d d, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WARREN YOUNT.
