4 Claims. (Cl. 123-33) This invention relates to devices for injecting fuel into spark plug openings of internal combustion engines, and in particular a plug adapted to be threaded into a spark plug opening of an engine with a threaded opening for receiving a spark plug in the extended end and the plug is provided with a fuel injecting opening in one side and an opening in the opposite side for carrying compressed air to a similar injector plug of a following cylinder.
The purpose of this invention is to provide means for injecting auxiliary fuel into an internal combustion engine with the fuel injected through the spark plug openings and whereby the quantity of fuel required to operate the engine is reduced, the power of the engine is increased, and the carbon accumulating in parts of the engine is substantially eliminated.
Various attempts have been made to increase the efliciency of internal combustion engines particularly by breaking down the fuel and also by mixing the fuel with air, however, it is difficult to introduce the fuel directly into the upper end of a cylinder without changing the cylinder head or other parts of the cylinder. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates an injector plug positioned in the spark plug opening of an engine with the spark plug removed and mounted in the injector plug and with fuel and air connections extended from sides of the injector plug.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming a fuel injector plug for internal combustion engines whereby plugs of this type are inserted in spark plug openings of a vehicle engine with the spark plugs carried by the plugs and with fuel and air connections extended from sides of the plugs.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fuel injecting plug for use in combination with internal combustion engines in which the plug is adapted to be threaded into spark plug openings of the engine without changing the engine or parts thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fuel injector plug for internal combustion engines through which fuel is efficiently introduced into an engine without the fuel passing through a conventional carburetor.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved fuel injecting plug for introducing fuel through spark plug openings of internal combustion engines in which the plug is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a fuel injection plug having a body with a threaded stud extended from one end of the body and adapted to be threaded into the spark plug opening of a motor vehicle or internal combustion engine, with a bore extended longitudinally through the plug and having an internally threaded recess in the end opposite to that from which the threaded stud extends, a fuel injector threaded into an opening in one side of the plug, and a compressed air connection extended from the opposite side of the plug.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the improved fuel injection plug of this invention showing the plug threaded into a spark plug opening of an internal combustion engine head, with the spark plug threaded 1n the opposite end of the plug, with a fuel injector extended angularly from said plug and with an air connection extended from the opposite side of the plug.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the fuel injector of the plug showing the ball valve of the injector in the open position, and with the parts shown on an enlarged scale.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the injector with other parts of the plug omitted.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved injector plug of this invention includes a body 10 having a threaded stud 11 at the lower end adapted to be threaded into a spark plug opening 12 of an engine block or head as indicated by the numeral 13, with the body provided with a longitudinally disposed bore 14 in the upper end of which is a threaded recess 15 for receiving a spark plug as indicated by the numeral 16 and with sides of the body 10 provided with angularly disposed threaded sockets 17 and 18, the socket 17 being adapted to receive an injector 19 and the socket 18 a coupling 20 for a tube 21 by which compressed air is carried to an injector plug of a following cylinder.
The exact design, shape and construction of the plug 10 is not essential as the spark plug may be located in different positions therein and the compressed air outlet connection may also be provided at other suitable points.
The fuel injector 19 that is threaded into the socket 17 of the plug 10 is illustrated in detail in Figs. 2 and 3 wherein the body of the injector 19 is provided with a bore 22 having an enlarged section 23 with a ball check valve 24 positioned in the section 23 and adapted to engage the end 25 of the bore 22 to provide a check valve.
The bore 22 is provided with a threaded end 26 in which a tube 27 from an air compressor or other means for compressing air under pressure is threaded. The body is also provided with an angularly disposed threaded opening 28 into which a fuel supply tube 29 is threaded as shown.
The opposite end of the body of the injector 19 is threaded externally to correspond with the threads of the socket 17 and this end of the body of the injector is also threaded internally to receive a threaded inner plug, as indicated by the numeral 30. The plug 30 is provided with a centrally positioned bore 31, a row of radially disposed openings 32 and an additional row of radially disposed openings 33. As shown in Fig. 2 the outer surface of the injector 19 is provided with threads 34 and the internal threads which receive the inner plug 30 are indicated by the numeral 35.
By this means the injector plug is inserted in the spark plug opening 12 with the spark plug which may have been removed from the opening 12 threaded in the opening 15 at the outer end of the plug and with the injector 19 threaded in the socket 17 in one side of the body of the plug.
With the gas or other fuel supplied through the injector 19 and with plugs 10 having the injectors and spark plugs incorporated therein installed in spark plug openings of an engine fuel is efficiently supplied to the engine and conventional carburetors may be omitted. With the plug of one cylinder connected by the tube 21 to the injector tube 27 of the following cylinder or to another cylinder of the engine the compression of one cylinder is used as the injecting force of the other cylinder.
By this means fuel consumption is reduced to a minimum and the power of the engine is increased.
It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A fuel injector plug for internal combustion engines comprising a body having a bore extended longitudinally therethrough and having a threaded stud extended from one end for connecting the body to the spark plug opening of a cylinder of the engine, the end of said body opposite to the end on which the stud is positioned having a threaded opening therein for receiving a spark plug, said body also having a pair of threaded sockets extended laterally from said bore, a fuel injector having a check valve therein threaded into one of said sockets, and an outlet tube for leading compressed air to another cylinder of the engine extended from the other of said sockets.
2. A fuel injector plug for internal combustion engines comprising a body having a bore extended longitudinally therethrough and having a threaded stud extended from one end for connecting the body to the spark plug opening of a cylinder of the engine, the end of said body opposite to the end on which the stud is positioned having a threaded opening therein for receiving a spark plug, said body also having a pair of threaded sockets extended laterally from said bore, a fuel injector having a check valve therein threaded into one of said sockets, said injector having a fuel supply connection in one side and a connection for supplying air under pressure in one end, and an outlet tube for leading compressed air to another cylinder of the engine extended from the other of said sockets.

A fuel injector plug for internal combustion engines comprising a body having a bore extended longitudinally therethrough and having a threaded stud extended from one end for connecting the body to the spark plug opening of a cylinder of the engine, the end of said body opposite to the end on which the stud is positioned having a threaded opening therein for receiving a spark plug, said body also having a pair of threaded sockets extended laterally from said bore, a fuel injector having a check valve therein threaded into one of said sockets, and said injector having a fuel supply connection in one side, a connection for supplying air under pressure in the end extended from the body of the plug and an inner plug having rows of radially positioned openings extended therethrough in the end positioned in the socket of the plug body, and an outlet tube for leading compressed air to another cylinder of the engine extended from the other of said sockets.

In a fuel injector plug, the combination which cornprises an elongated body having a bore extendetd longitudinally therethrough and having a threaded stud extended from one end for connecting the body to a spark plug opening of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine, the threads of said stud corresponding to the threads of a spark plug, the opposite end of the said body having a threaded opening therein for receiving a spark plug, said body also having a pair of angularly disposed threaded sockets extended from said bore, a cylindrical fuel injector also having a bore extended 1ongitudinally therethrough threaded into one of the sockets of the body of the plug, said injector having a fuel supply connection extended angularly from one side with a connection for supplying air under pressure threaded in the bore of one end thereof and having an inner plug threaded into the bore in the opposite end of the injector, said inner plug having a centrally disposed longitudinally positioned opening and also having a plurality of radially disposed openings extended longitudinally therethrough, said injector having an enlarged recess in the intermediate portion thereof, and a ball positioned in said recess providing a check valve, preventing pressure of the cylinder escaping through the injector, and a coupling for an outlet tube for leading compressed air to another cylinder of the engine extended from the angularly disposed socket in a side of the body of the plug.
