Description

G. P. BAXTER.
FILTER;
No. 26,965. Patented Jan. 31, 1860 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
C. F. BAXTER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FILTER.
Specification of Letters Patent No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHS. F. BAXTER, of Boston, in the county of Suflolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Globe Filtering- Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description.
Figure 1, presents a perspective view of a globe filtering case, consisting of a concave exterior globe, and a diaphragm, or section of a globe, closely fitting each other. The diaphragm is actuated by a lever, from b to Z). The globe consists of two parts, and the diaphragm is also constructed in two parts, as seen by Figs. 2 and 3.
Fig. 2, presents a vertical section. A, is the concave globe of the exterior case; and B, the interior sectional diaphragm, nicely fitted thereto. 6 is the lever, by which the diaphragm is actuated from side to side,

to' remove the impurities of filtration. The water enters at C, and is purified by passing through the filtering medium D, and out at E. 0, 0-0, 0, indicates where the globes are united.
Fig. 3, shows one half of the inner sectional globe, or diaphragm B, with bars a, a, a, on which is laid the filtering medium D, as seen in Fig. 2. Then the two halves are soldered together and placed within the outer case A, Fig. 2.
hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Operating the movable diaphragm within the globe, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
OHS. F. BAXTER.
Witnesses:
WM. T. KIRBY, IsAAo WELLANHART.
