Description

(No Model.)
J..A. WILLIAMS.
ROPE CLAMP.
Patented Dec. 19, 1882.
N. PETERS, Pholv-Limognpher, Washington, D. c.
. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. WILLIAMS, OF VERONA, MISSOURI.
ROPE-CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,252, dated December 19, 1882.
Application filed May 81,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN A. WILLIAMs, of Verona, in the county of Lawrence and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Rope-Clamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section taken on line 2 2, Fig. 3; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.
A represents the end of a rope. B is a sleeve or tube, the hole preferablyoeiug somewhat tapering, as shown in Fig. 2. On the inside of the sleeve are grooves in which fit wedges G 0, provided with short sharp projections or teats D for taking hold of the rope. To the sleeve may be secured a clevis, E, by means of pins F F,cast upon or secured to opposite sides of the sleeve for attaching the rope to an object.
In securing my improved clamp to a rope the end of the rope is first passed through the sleeve. The wedges are then placed upon the rope anddirected into their respective grooves.
Then when power is applied the rope will assume the..position shown. The outer ends of the wedges are preferably turned out as shown, to engage with the end of the sleeve. The clamp can be easily removed from the rope by simply pushing the rope forward, the Wedges sliding in the grooves of the sleeve.
I claim- 1. Ina rope-clam p, the combination ofsleeve B, having internal grooves, and Wedges 0, having teats D, as set forth.
2. The combination of sleeve B, clevis E, secured to the sleeve by pins F, and wedges having teats D, as set forth.
3. The sleeve B, with a tapering opening and grooves, clevis E, secured by means of pins F,and wedges O, fitting in the grooves of the sleeve, and having outturned ends and teats D, all substantially as and for the pur pose set forth. I
JOHN A. YVILLIAMS.
