Description

W. C. OAKVIK MAKE-UP JACKET Oct. 12, 1954 Filed June 28, 1951 JNVENTOR. h//L/'M JAVA/WK BY 'rraE/YEY Patented Oct. 12, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MAKE-UP JACKET Wilma C. '0akvik, Minneapolis, Mimi.
Application ".Iune'28, 1951, Serial No.-233,965
1 Claim. l
This invention relates to make-up jackets for use 'by ladies to protect their dresses from becoming soiled during the application of facial cosmetics.
.It is customary for ladies to complete their attire before applying lipstick, rouge, powder and other facial Cosmetics, because lto don a dress over the head after applying facial Cosmetics results in soiling of the dress by contact with the facial make-up and also disturbs the make-up, thus necessitating restoring the make-up.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a loosely fitting jacket for a lady to wear which completely overlies the Shoulders and the upper portions of a dress to protect the dress from becoming so'iled during the application of facial Cosmetics.
It is another object of this invention to provide a make-up Jacket having a body of sufficient size to fit loosely on the body of a wearer and also providing overlapping inner edges at a medial opening in its front thus permitting freedom of body movements of the person wearing the jacket in applying facial cosmetics with the inner edges of the jacket remaining in overlapped relationship.
It is another object of this invention to provide a make-up jacket including sleeves having overlapping inner edges at an opening in the front of the jacket, the sleeves and the body of the Jacket being of sufiicient size to fit loosely on the body of a wearer of the jacket thus permitting freedom of body movements in applying facial Cosmetics with the inner edges of the jaclet remaining in overlapped relationship.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiments of the invention a're illustrated.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of the make-up jacket constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, showing the type of seam employed at all edges of the jacket.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary view of a modified construction of a sleeve used with the jacket of Figures 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings 'by character of reference, i il is the make-up jacket which comp'rises a rear panel |2 and opposite side panels I4 and l forming the front of the jacket iii. The opposite edges of the rear panel 12 are turned inwardly and the abutting edges of the panels lt and E6 are turned inwardly and then these abutting inturned edges of the rear panel IZ and the side panels iii. and i are stitched together as at IB. At the opposite upper sides of the rear panel E2, three-quarters length sleeves 28 have their inner edges turned in to abut turned in edges of the rear panel l2 and side panels M and Hi respectively and the abutting edges of the sleeves and panels are stitched together.
The rear panel i2 and side panels li and lt are .of sufficient size to provide a garment of a size which will t loosely on the body of women permitting freedom of body movement for the wearer of the jacket it. The sleeves 20 are oversized in-relation to the size of the ladies, arms wearing the jacket I El so that there is great freedom of movement for the arms in the sleeves mi. There is a neck opening 22 provided by the rear panel i2 and the opposite side panels M and ie. Also a medial opening 215 is formed between the inner edges e and 28 of the side panels IG and Hi respectively which extends from the neck opening 22 to the bottom edge of the side panels M and IG. The inner edges 26 and 28 of the side panels IG and [4 respectively normally overlap in a substantial overlapped separated relation as at 29 when worn by the ladies using the make-up jacket id. The loosely tting body of the jacket le and also the loosely fitting sleeves 2d permits a lady Wearing the Jacket li! to apply facial Cosmetics with great freedom of body and arm movements With the overlapped inner edges 25-28 remaining in their overlapped relationship and as a consequence there is no likelihood of the lady Wearing the make-up jacekt soiling her dress.
The inner edges 28 and 28 of the panels 16 and lt respectively, the bottom edges of the rear panel iz and side panels lli and lt, also the edges of the neck opening 22 as well as the lower edge of the sleeves 20 are lapped over on the outside of these panels and on the outside of the sleeves as at 3B. Then a narrow trim 32 overlies all of these lapped edges 30 with a portion 3d of the trim 32 extending over the outside surface of the panels and sleeves as at 36. A hidden stitch means 33 secures the trim to the lapped portion 30 of the panels etc. and the abutting portion of the panels and sleeves. A second stitch means w secures the extended portion 34 of the trim 32 to the abutting portion of the panels etc. The trim 32 overlying these lapped edges 3B of the panels and sleeves etc. prevents raveling of the material of the panele and sleeves and also provides a neat appearing jacket IO.
In Figure 4 sleeve 50 is provided with a relatively short upwardly extending slit 52 formed at its lower edge, and the slit 52 in this sleeve is to provide additional freedom of movement for the arms of a lady wearing the loosely fitting jacket with the loosely fitting sleeves.
The jacket 1B being of a size to loosely fit the 'body of a wearer thereof and providing overlapping edges 25 and 28 of the side panels IB and M when being worn by a lady, all fastening means for securing the opening together at the front 01 the Jacket may be eliminated.
The jacket may be made of cotton, gingham, percale, or any other appropriate materials.
While the jacket has been described for makeup purposes, the same may be used to protect ones garments while having a hair Shampoo. Furthermore, such changes in structure and de'- sign as come within the scope of the appended claim may be resorted to if desired without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A make-up jacket comprising in combination a body portion consisting of a back panel and front panels and including sleeves, the front panele of the body portion arranged with their inner edges disposed in substantially overlapped separated relationship with respect to each other to provide an overlapped opening at the front of the make-up jacket, the bottom most edge of the overlapped portions of the body 'being as wide as the width of the major length of the overlap, the body portion being of suficient size to be loosely worn on the body of a wearer of the make-up jacket, the said sleeves being of sufilcient size to be loosely worn on the arms of the wearer of the make-up jacket, each of the sleeves having a relatively short upwardly extending slit formed at its lower edge to enhance freedom of movement of the arms of the wearer of the make-up jacket, the loosely fitting body of the make-up Jacket in combination with the loosely fitting slit sleeves permitting relatively great body movement by the wearer of the make-up jacket so that the wearer of the make-up jacket may apply facial Cosmetics with facility and whereby the overlapped inner edges of the body portion remain in their substantially overlapped separated relationship with respect to each other.
