Description

Sept. 28, 1954 F. HAMMER CLOSURE CAP Filed Jan. 22, 1952 i 26 2a 2a 27 5 IN V EN TOR.
FRITZ HAMMER Patented Sept. 28, 1954 CLOSURE cAP Fritz Hammer, Mannheim, Germany Application January 22, 1952, Serial No. 267,523
Claims priority, application Germany January 27, 1951 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to closure caps, and more particularly to a closure ca for the threaded mouth of a container such as a tube for pasty materials or substances.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a closure capallowing the pasty material or substance to be extruded as a plurality of independent lengths or streams which form decorations, ornaments, trimmings, garnishments, or the like.
It is another object of the present invention to design a closure cap of the type described in such a manner that no pasty material or substance can enter the threads thereof where it would become dry and render difficult the operation of the closure cap.
The closure cap according to the present invention comprises an inner tubular member adapted to be screwed onto the neck of a con.- tainer and an outer tubular member which is screwed onto the innertubular member. The inner tubular member is formed with a plurality of openings for the extrusion of material, and the outer tubular member is formed with a central opening which may be divided by partitioning members into a plurality of extrusion areas. The outer and the inner tubular members engage each other in closing position along annularsealing faces which are located between the apertures in the inner tubular member and the central opening in the outer tubular member so that the outer tubular member must be screwed to an opening position before extruded material can pass through the apertures in the inner tubular member and through the central opening in the outer tubular member.
The novel features which are considered as characteristic for the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claim. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of a closure cap according to the present invention; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the closure cap shown in Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings the closure cap comprises a first tubular member having a cylindrical part 2 and a lower rim portion l for manual operation of the first member. The cylindrical part 2 is provided with an inner thread 3 fitting the threaded mouth (not shown) of shown in dotted. lines.
the container such as a tube to which the closure cap is to be applied. Furthermore, the cylindrical part 2 is provided with an outer thread 20. A plurality of cross ribs 4 are rigidly connected to the cylindrical part2 above the inner thread 3 thereof and are preferably formed in cnepiece with the cylindrical part 2 of the first member; A stopper 5 having a diameter being slightly smaller than the diameter of the inner thread 3 of the cylindrical part 2 of the first member is rigidly connected to and preferably made in one piece with the cross ribs l so as to form a plurality of apertures adapted to be filled by the pasty material or substance to be extruded from the container or tube (not shown) The stopper 5 projects with the upper part thereof above the upper end face 2| of the cylindrical part 2 and the cross ribs 4. A shoulder 22 is formed in the outer curved surface of the part 2 so as to adjoin the outer thread 20 of the cy-- lindrical part 2, the upper portion 1 of the curved outer surface of the cylindrical part 2 being substantially smooth whereas the inner surface 23 thereof is sonically shaped.
A second tubular member 9 has an inner thread 8 fitting the outer thread'Zfl of the cylindrical part 2. of the first member so as to be screwable thereto between a closing position shown in Fig. 1 infull lines and an opening position The second member has a lower rim portion Ill abutting against the rim portion 1 in the closing position and serving as a gripping member.
Furthermore, the second member 9 isprovided above the thread "8 with a shoulder 24 abutting in the closing position of the second member 9 against the shoulder 22 of the cylindrical part 2 of the first member. The second member 9 has a part 25 having a central boring ll into which the outer face 26 of the stopper 5 enters. The middle portion I2 of the second member 9 is cylindrically shaped and fits the upper portion 1 of the curved outer surface of the cylindrical part 2. The boring II and the stopper 5 define an annular space with each other which communicates with the plurality of apertures formed by the cross ribs 4 so as tobe filled by the pasty material or substance. To this end the diameter of the boring II is slightly larger than the diameter of the stopper 5.
The part 25 has at its upper end a central opening I 3 having a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the stopper 5 and containing a plurality of cross members preferably forming a star-like configuration having a central portion 21 and a plurality of spiders 28 forming part of the projecting part 25 of the second member 9 and extending across the central opening I3.
The operation of this device is as follows:
In order to close the closure cap the second member 9 is screwed down so as to have the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1. In this position the passage of the pasty material is interrupted by the annular sealing face H which engages tightly the transverse face 26 of the stopper 5 along an annular sealing face portion located adjacent the perimeter of the outer transverse circular face 25.
In order to open the closure cap the second member 9 is screwed as far as the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 in which the inner rim of the opening l3, the central portion 2'! and the cross members or spiders 2c are separated by a distance from the outer face of the stopper 5 so that the pasty material or substance can be extruded into the space formed therebetween in which the pasty material or substance forms a single flow. This flow is subdivided into a plurality of independent lengths by the spiders 28 so that the pasty material or substance leaves the closure cap in form of separate and independent lengths or streams which can be used for decorations, ornaments, trimmings, garnishments or the like.
The present invention is particularly suitable for tubes containing a nutritive substance such as Whipped cream, mayonnaise, anchovy paste or the like.
It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together, may also find a useful application in other types of closure caps differing from the types described above.
While the invention has been illustrated and described as embodied in a closure cap for the threaded mouth of a container for pasty materials or substances, it is not intended to be limited to the details shown, since various modifications and structural changes may be made without departing in any way from the spirit of the present invention.
Without further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of the present invention that others can by applying current knowledge readily adapt it for various applications without omitting features that, from the standpoint of prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specified aspects of this invention and, therefore, such adaptations 4 should and are intended to be comprehended with the meaning and range of equivalence of the following claim.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A closure cap for the threaded neck of a collapsible container for pasty materials comprising, in combination, a first tubular member having an inner thread adapted to fit on said threaded neck of the container and an outer thread; a cylindrical stopper at least partly located within said tubular member, and having an outer transverse circular face said stopper being rigidly connected to said first tubular member and forming a plurality of apertures therewith surrounding said outer transverse circular face; a second tubular member having an in her thread fitting on said outer thread of said first tubular member and adapted to be man ually screwed between a closing position and an opening position, said second tubular member having a cylindrical inner face having a diameter slightly greater than the diameter of said cylindrical stopper and surrounding the same, said second tubular member having a transverse end wall extending over said apertures and provided with a transverse annular inner sealing face engaging in said closing position of said second tubular member said outer transverse circular face of said stopper and defining in said opening position of said second tubular member with said transverse circular face a chamber, said transverse end wall being formed with a central extrusion opening hav-- ing a diameter smaller than the diameter of said annular sealing faces so that extruded material passes in said opening position of said second tubular member between said sealing faces into said chamber and through said extrusion opening, said transverse end wall having a plurality of partitioning portions dividing said central opening into a plurality of areas for shaping material extruded from said chamber.
