1 Claim. 1 This invention relates to apparatus for the continuous fluid treatment of articles traveling on an enclosed conveyor, and is particularly directed to apparatus for continuously subjecting articles to washing and drying operations or other successive steps employing any desired combination of liquid or gas treatments. It has been particu-- duces special problems in apparatus of this type,
due partly to the shapes and sizes of such pans and utensils, and partly to the type of cleansing and drying action'to which they must be subjected. Certain features of the invention are particularly intended to facilitate the treatment of articles of this type. In particular, special supporting means has been provided for holding such articles in proper position in minimum space.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the detailed description of the preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the apparatus;

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 2.
The invention is illustrated by an apparatus particularly adapted for use in cleaning various types of pans used in commercial baking. It comprises in general a substantially annular treating chamber III which is divided into a washing zone, a rinsing zone, a drying zone and a feed discharge zone. The treating chamber I is formed by suitable sheet metal walls including a bottom, cylindrical inner wall I2, outer wall I3 and top I4 to form a complete enclosure except at the feed and discharge opening 44 through the outer wall I3. v
A suitable annular conveyor I1 is supported and rotated in chamber I0. The conveyor includes an article supporting grate I'I' having an outer rim I9 and cylindrical grate support 20, which is in the form of a sheet metal cylinder 2|.

The grate support cylinder 2 I extends upwardly substantially-to the top of the available space for the articles to be washed and carries along its inner face, preferably adjacent the upper end,
an annular rail 24 resting on a series of rollers 25 rotating in bearings 26 mounted on an inner wall I2 of the treating chamber. Rail 24 advantageously extends between flanges 21 on rollers 25 to maintain the grate I! in radial alignment.
A suitable arrangement is provided for revolving the grate II at the desired speed. For this purpose the rail 24 is provided with an inwardly extending annular rack engaged by pinion 8| extending through a restricted opening in the inner wall I2 and driven through vertical shaft 82a.
The grate sections II are removably mounted on rods I05, each section being provided with hook-shaped hangers II3 of sheet metal fitting with generally radial openings into which the lower margin of a fiat utensil may be inserted appropriately so as'to support it in upright position during treatment. In the form illustrated each section II is provided with a plurality of pairs of parallel grate bars I34 mounted at their ends on inner frame bar I I4 and outer frame bar II5. Between contiguous pairs of bars I34 an intermediate pair of parallel grate bars I35 is located, attached at their outer ends to outer frame bar H5 and having their inner ends I 36 deflected laterally and attached to adjacent bars I34. An intermediate bar I35 is also located parallel to and adjacent each side bar I I2 and is similarly mounted at its ends to bar H5 and adjacent bar I34. Filler bars I31, connected at their outer ends to frame bar II5, are located in the outer parts of the tapered spaces between each bar I35 and the bar I34 to which it is connected.
Suitable means is provided for supporting a fiat utensil inserted between parallel bars of a grate section I33 far enough to support such utensil in generally upright position by engagement with such parallel bars. For this purpose supporting members connected to the grate bars, and which may serve likewise to hold such bars in position, are utilized. In the illustrated construction outer cross rod I3'Ia extends parallel to outer frame bar II5, passing through and engaging bars I34, I35 and I31, and is fixed at its ends to, side bars II2. Inner cross rod I39 is locateda short distance from and generally parallel to inner frame bar H4, and likewise. extends through and engagesbars I34, I35 and I31, with its ends mounted on bars II2. With this arrangement a corner of a fiat utensil may be inserted between adjacent bars I34 or I35 with its bottom edge resting on rod I3Ia1 and itsi'uner edge bearing against rod I39. Bars F34 will be spaced appropriately to permit. utensil I to tilt slightly, holding it in place by engagement of its opposite faces with bars I 34 or I35. By suitably positioning rods I31 and I39, utensils may be effectively supported inthis manner.
It is frequently desirable to provideadditional support to limit downward projection of the utensils, to serve as a guide in rapidly locating the utensils in proper position, or for both purposes. This is accomplished in the form shown by providing. a supportrod I40. located. below the grate section. II between rods I3'law and I38, and. appropriately attached to the section. arranged toengage the lower margin of a utensil I30 and to retain it in. proper position. In the arrangement illustrated rod I40 extends along the lower margins of, bars II2, I34, I and I31 andis suitably attached thereto as by welding. Filler bars I31 project to: or slightly beyond rod. I40, which provides appropriate support for the inner ends of such bars, and is suitably attached thereto as by welding. Suitable short brace rods I4-I may be fixed at. their ends to adjacentbars I34. and I35 intermediate rods I and I39 to provide: addi-- tional rigidity.
An arrangement for mounting and supporting. the-frame rods I05 is also-disclosed in Figs. 2 and 3.. In this construction an. annular mounting angle I42 is fixed. tothe lower margin of the cylindrical grate support 20 as by welding, and the conveyor frame rod mounting. plates lIIIiare detachably connected to angle I42 as by bolts M3. The outer ends of frame rods I05 are detachably connected to the outer frame rim. I9 asby screws I44 extending through the rim and threaded into the ends of rods I05". This constructionv is relatively simple and. inexpensive, and permits ready assembly and disassemb1y,. repair and. replacement of damaged. parts without requiring, any general dismantling of the machine.
I have described what I believe to be the best embodiments of my invention. I do not wish, however, to be confined to the embodiments shown. but what I desire. to cover. by. Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
In an annular substantially horizontal rotary table conveyor for advancing articles to be treated along an annular treating apparatus, a
first rail arranged along the inner circumference of the conveyor; a second rail arranged along the outer circumference of the conveyor; first and outer ends. to said second rail, and having their inner end's. defiected laterally and attached to ones of said first and second pairs of parallel bars; and three radially spaced supportelements interconnecting the member bars of each pair of bars; said elements serving to subjacently support rectangular trays in upright position on two' of. their adjoining edges.
