SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,817, dated December 12, 1882, Application filed February 23, 1852. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN H. NOLAN, of Boston,` in the county ofV Sui'olk and State of Massachusetts, a citizen ot' the United States, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement iu `Safes,`of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming a part of this specification in explaining io its nature, in which- Figure l represents .a front elevation of a safe containing my improvement; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, enlarged, of the safedoor'.

rlhe invention consists in providing the safe in a novel manner with a series of compartments, drawers, or boxes fastened to the inner side ofthe sai'edoor, by which the space between the front ofthe interior Wood-work and zo the dooris utilized, and the interior ofthe safe made more available, and consequently more valuable.

lt will be observed that by arranging the drawers upon the safe-door, as described, a

great convenience is effected, in that upon the 45 opening of the door the drawers are moved out from the interior of the safe to a positionfrom which they can very readily be removed.

It has always been a grea't problem in safemaking to obtain the largest space and the 5o izing in the least the safetyof the contents of 55 the safe.

Having thus fully described my invention,
