NATHANIEL W. FENTON, OF- EAST CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
BEVERAGE VAN OR WAGON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,475, dated December 5, 1882.
i Application filed August 14,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NATHANIEL W. FEN- TON, of East Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex, of the Stateof Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Beverage Vans or Wagons; and I do hereby (le- (-lare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figurelisaverticalandlongitudinalsection, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section, of a wagon of my invention. It is designed to be moved about from place to place for retailing beer, soda-water, or other beverage to individuals.
The nature of the said invention is defined in the claims hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, A represents a wagon having constructed within and constituting an integral part of it a refrigerator or ice-holding apartment, B, there being suitably arranged within such apartment :1. closed fountain or reservoir, 0. From the top .of the refrigerafor, and over the fountain, there extends upward a hollow prismatic column, E, having one or more openings, a, and a door or doors I) to such in one or more sides ofit, such column serving to support the educts-or discharging pipes or conduits efot the fountain C,
such conduits being arranged as represented and provided with cocks g g. On the top of the l column E is arranged or fixed a vessel, F, for holding sit-up, such vessel having one or more faucets or cocks, h, for drawing off its liquid contents, as may be necessary. Within the refrigerator there also is a tank, D, for holding beer, such tank having a discharge-pipe, 6, arranged and terminating in a faucet or cock, is, as represented. There is also to the refrigerator a shelf or tablet, l, for supporting tumblers or other vessels, such shelf or tablet being arranged as represented. The educt e of the fountain 0 extends down within the fountain from the top nearly to the bottom thereof;
I is shown at s as having a chamber or box, it, beneath it and front of the refrigerator. The
; said refrigerator is arranged at one side of the body of the wagon, so that there may be a clear working-space, u, between the refrigerator and the opposite side and in rear of the said refrigerator, in order that an attendant may pass freely about one side and end of the refrigerator, as occasion may require, it being understood that in such side there is to be one or more openings provided with a door or doors, n, in order for access to be had to the interior of the refrigerator to supply it with ice or for other purpose.
A beverage van or wagon thus constructed can be drawn from place to place and employed to advantage in lurnishing coolingdrinks to persons in the streets of a city or town or at fairs or other public places.
I am aware that a wagon has been devised for conveying mineral-water retorts, and also that a hand-cart has been invented for carrying about a soda-water fountain and its accessories. I regard my device as a decided improvement upon the latter construction. My device is arranged for conveying other articles than soda-water, as beer, and also for convenience in getting at the various portions. An attendant can enter the wagon, wherethere is shelter-in fact, the complete device forms a portable shop, containing within itself all the necessary conveniences for business.
1. A wagon such as described, in combination with a contained refrigerator and sodawater apparatus, the latter occupying only a portion of the interior of the wagon, whereby forth.
2. The wagon A, in combination with the refrigerator B, formed integral therewith, the reservoir (J, seated within the refrigerator, its pipes 6 cf, the column E, and sirnp-vessel F, constructed and arranged as set forth.
3. The wagon A and refrigerator B, formed integral therewith, in combination with the reservoirO, its pipes 0 cf, column E, sirupvessel F, beer-tank D, and its pipe 6,. all con structed and arranged as set forth.
NATHANIEL 'W. FENTON.
