3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a wallet which is :formed from a plurality=of pieces of material to form a plurality of pockets.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a wallet which will have a minimum amount of stitching or cementing to fasten the parts together.
Another object of the invention is to provide the main portion of the wallet as a structure to which additions may be made to provide a desired number of pockets.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a wallet in open position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing certain parts folded outwardly so that the structure may be seen.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a plan view of one of the blanks cut from sheet stock from which the wallet is formed.
Figures 5 and 6 are plan views of additional pieces which are assembled with the piece of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a fragmental plan view of the wallet taken from between the separator and an inner wall section to show a sliding locking relation of the stay, and one of the wall sections.
With reference to the drawings, the blanks from which the construction is formed are shown in Figures 4, 5, and 6. The blank I!) comprises a main outer wall II and a second wall formed of sections I 2-I 2 which are joined to the outer wall I I along the fold line I3. These sections are spaced at their inner edges as shown at I4, and are also provided with slots I5I5. Tabs IE-IB are joined to the free edge of the sections along the fold lines II-II. A slit I8 provides a tongue I9 on the tab I6.
The outer wall II may have a tab 29 joined thereto along fold line 2I. Third walls 2222 are joined to the ends of the outer wall II along fold lines 23-23, and are provided with dove tailed portions 2424 having tabs 25 at their outer ends and 26 at their inner ends.
This structure is folded first along the fold line I 3, as shown in Figure 2, so as to position the sections I 2I2 spaced from the outer wall II. Then the third walls 22-22 are folded along each fold line 23 Over the sections I2 and the dove tail portions 24 are passed through slots I5 with their tabs 25 and 26 extending under the ends of the slots so as to lock the third walls in this position.
The stay 28, as cut out in blank in Figure 5, comprises a pair .of .tabs .23 and 30 which are folded inwardly upon themselves so as to provide a finished edge, and this stay 28 is positioned between sections I2 and the outer wall II with its lower edge along the crease or fold I3. This stay spans the space I4 between the sections and is held close to the sections I2 by the tabs Iii-I6 being folded over the upper edge 3| of the stay 28, the tab 2! extending on the inside of the stay as shown in Figures 1 and 2 so as to present a finished side of the leather between the sections I2 and the lower edge of stay 28.
One end 32 of the stay 28 is secured, such as by stitching, to the section l2 while the other end of the stay is slotted as at 33 to receive through this slot the tongue I9 of the tab I6 (see Figure 7) so that it is slidably related to the other section I2. Thus, as the wall II is folded along a line midway of the space I4, this stay may go and come by reason of the slot and tongue connection just mentioned. This stay also provides pockets whose entrance is between the edges 34 of the sections I2, and the pocket end is of the depth of the stay for the reception of cards or the like. Two more pockets which are open at their right angular edges and are entered either through the edge 35 or edge 36 are also formed between the third walls 22 and the sections of the second wall I2.
There is also, of course, formed a pocket between the outer wall II and the stay for the lengthwise reception of bills. This pocket may be subdivided into two parts for the reception of a bill separator 38, as shown in plan view in Figure 6, and which comprises legs 39 to engage the inner surface of the fold I3. This separator will be of a dimension so that it will stand up slightly above the sections I 2, but will be shorter than the outer wall I I. The outer wall may have its tab 20 folded inwardly so as to provide a finished inner surface in that portion which extends above the bill separator 38 and the sections I2.
By this arrangement a large number of pockets may be provided. In the present instance, I have shown four small pockets and two large pockets.
I claim:
1. A wallet comprising an outer wall of generally rectangular shape, a second wall formed in two spaced sections, each of said sections folded from the lengthwise edge of the outer wall and each section having a slot for a portion of its length parallel to the fold and adjacent the fold line, a tab on each of said sections removed from said fold and parallel thereto, third walls each folded from an end of the outer wall over 3 a slotted section and each having a dove tail portion along one edge only of the wall and extending through a said slot to lock the third walls to the second wall along one edge only thereof, a stay between the outer and second walls spanning the space between the second wall sections and slidably held to a section by the tab thereof being folded over the stay.
2. A wallet comprising an outer wall of generally rectangular shape, a second wall formed in swo spaced sections, each of said sections folded from the lengthwise edge of the outer wall and each section having a slot for a portion of its length parallel to the fold and adjacent the fold line, a tab on each of said sections removed from said fold and parallel thereto, third walls each folded from an end of the outer wall over a slotted section and each having a dove tail portion along one edge only of the wall and extending through a said slot to lock the third walls to 20 the second wall along one edge only thereof, a
4 stay between the outer and second walls spanning the space between the second wall sections and held to the sections by the tab of each of the sections being folded over the stay, one end section having a tongue on its tab, said stay having a slot therein, said stay slidably attached to the end of said one section by said tongue passing through said slot in said stay.
3. A wallet as in claim 1 wherein said stay is secured to the other section.
