SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,299, dated November 28, 1882.

Io all whom t may concern Be it known that we, ISRAEL SHOUDY, Jr:, and CHARLES ATHERTON,of Paw Paw Grove, in the county of Lee and State ot' Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad Dumping-Gars; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencey being had to theaccompanyingdrawings,which t'orm apart of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a bottom view of our improved dumping-car. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a cross section, of the same.

Our invention has relation to drop-bottom dumping-cars; and it consists in the improved construction, combination, and arrangement of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, said improvement having for its object to combine simplicity of construction and operation with great strength and solidity of its parts. l

In the accompanying drawings, the letters A A indicate the side sills of the carbody, which is mounted in the usual manner on trucks. In bearings b b in the cross-beams B B are hung two bars, O O, parallel to the side sills, A A, and provided at both ends with eccentric disks or blocks D D. These eccentrics support the bottom, which consists ot' two parts, E E, inclined toward the middle ot' the car, and either pivoted in the end sills or crossbeams, B, or hinged to the side sills, A. To the endsof bars O C are secured levers F, pass ,readily released when desired.

Having thus described myiuvention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- A The combination, in a dropbottom dumpingcar, of the car body or frame A, having end bearing beams. B B, bars C G, hung in said beams, and having eccentrics D D and levers F F, and bottom composed of the hinged halves E E, said eccentrics D arranged and adapted to support the bottom in both its closed and open positions, so as to relieve the tilting bars from strain, substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
