1 Claim.
This invention relates to furniture and equipment used in beauty parlors and the like, and in particular a lounge having an adjustable back with a hair dryer hood positioned in an opening in the back whereby a customer may rest in a reclined position as the hair is dried.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a combination hair dryer and lounge which eliminates the necessity of sitting in an upright position while hair is drying after treatments in beauty parlors and the like.
The conventional hair dryer is mounted on a stand and with the stand positioned beside a chair the dryer may be adjusted to receive a head or to blow airover the hair thereof but it requires considerable efiort to hold the hair in a suitable position for drying. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a reclining lounge having a back and a head rest with an opening through the upper part of the back to receive a hair dryer hood and with means for adjusting the position of the back whereby a customer may relax and rest in a comfortable position as the hair is dried.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for constructing a lounge for beauty parlors and the like whereby means for drying hair is incorporated in an adjustable reclining back to eliminate the necessity of sitting in an upright position as the hair is dried.
Another object of the invention is to provide ahair drying lounge that occupies comparatively little floor space and that is positioned above the floor to facilitate cleaning.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hair drying lounge having a dryer hood incorporated in an adjustable back which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a substantially rectangular shaped frame mounted on legs with an upwardly extended back pivctally mounted between arms, with means for adjusting the position of the back and with a hair dryer hood incorporated in the back.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings wherein:
Figure l is a side elevational view showing the hair dryer lounge.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view looking toward the front of the lounge.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through the lounge illustrating the ratchet for adjusting the position of the back.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the hair dryer lounge.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the hairdryer lounge of this invention includes a horizontally disposed cushion l9 mounted in a rectangular shaped frame I I with an upwardly extended back l2 pivotally mounted between arms l3 and I4 with pins l5 and IS, and a hair dryer hood I! is adjustably mounted in a hearing "5 on the rear surface of the back l2 by a rod l9 which extends through the bearing and V which is secured in position by a set screw 20.
The supporting frame II is formed with side bars 2| and 22 connected by end rails 23 and 24 and the sides are provided with supporting legs 25 and 26 at the outer end of the lounge and legs 21 and 28 at the inner end.
In the design shown the legs supporting the frame II are squarev and it will be understood that the frame may be supported by legs of any suitable shape or design.
The arms l3 and I4 at the inner ends of the bars 2| and 22, respectively extend upwardly, as shown in Figures 1 and 3 and the forward upper corners are formed with arcuate surfaces 29 and 30, respectively.
A tray 3| is positioned on one side of the lounge and, as illustrated in Figures 2' and 3 the tray is provided with a post 32 that is secured in a bearing 33 on the outer surface of the arm [3 by a set screw 34.
The sides of the back |2 are provided with segments 35 and 36, the rear edges of which are provided with teeth 3! and 38, respectively, and the teeth are positioned to be engaged by pawls 39 and 40 mounted on a shaft 4| and resiliently held in engagement with the teeth of the segments by springs 42 and 43, respectively, The shaft 4| is actuated by hand levers 44 and 45 which are pivotally mounted on pins 46 and 41, respectively in the sides of the frame. The lever 44 is connected to an arm 48 on one end of the shaft 4| by a link 4-9 and the lever 45 is connected by a link 50 to an arm 5| on the opposite end of the shaft 4|.
The back I2 of the lounge is formed with upwardly extended wings 52 and 53 providing a head rest or opening 54 in which the hair dryer hood H is positioned as shown in Figure 2, and with the position of the hair dryer hood adjusted by the rod I9 and bearing |8 drying air from.- the hood may be blown over the head of an occupant of the lounge to efficiently dry the hair.
It will be understood that the cushions forming the seat H], the back l2 and also the supporting frame may be of any suitable type or design and also a hood of any type or design may be used in combination with the lounge.
It will be understood that other modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a hair dryer lounge having an adjustable back rest the improvement comprising a horizontally disposed cushion providing a seat, a frame having supporting legs for supporting the cushion, a back having a head receiving recess in the upper end extended upwardly from one end of the cushion, inwardly extending opposed pivot pins for pivotally mounting the back in the said supporting frame, means adjusting the position of said back, said means including relatively spaced segments having ratchet teeth on the edges thereof mounted on and extending below the lower edges of the back, a shaft positioned across the frame below the lower edges of the back, pawls mounted on the shaft and positioned to coact with the ratchet teeth of the segments for holding the back in adjusted positions, spring means connected to the pawls and to the frame below the lower edge of the back for holding the pawls in engagement with the ratchet teeth of the segment, hand levers pivotally mounted in the frame, arms at each end of the shaft, and links connecting the arms to said hand levers whereby movement of said hand levers will actuate said shaft to release the pawls from the teeth of the segment to permit adjustment of the back in relation to the seat and the back and seat so arranged by reason of the mounting of said segments that the back and seat will form a plane unbroken surface when the back is in its farthest adjusted position.
