This invention relates to molds for the purpose of producing pipe fittings made with a cement base.
One important object of the invention is to provide a suitable mold whereby cement base flttings may be formed with flaring and socketed bells.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a device of this description having means for securing a pair of separable halves in assembled relation.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a core fitting having parts corresponding in inclination to the flaring openings of the mold.
The fourth important object of the invention is to provide a cylindrical metallic core supported by the abovementioned core parts.
A fifth important object of the invention is to provide clamping means for securing the core in proper position within the mold.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain features of construction and combinations of parts presently to be fully described, and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characteristics indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved molding design.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a View in elevation at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
In carrying out the invention as here shown there is provided a pair of mold halves [0 complementary to each other.
Each of these mold halves has a main portion, the upper part I I of which forms a hollow cylinder and the lower part I2 of which forms a frustoconical flaring portion. Projecting from one side of the mold of the cylindrical portion of the mold is a cylindrical nipple l3 likewise formed in two halves, each of which is associated fixedly with one of the main mold halves. At its outer extremity these cylindrical portions 13 each merges into a frusto-conical flaring mouth M. The dividing edges of the mold and nipple halves and the flaring portions are provided with radially extending ribs l5. At the upper and lower ends of the main mold portion clamps 16 are connected to one of the meeting ribs by a pivot [1. Each of these clamps has a U-shaped portion it formed to grip and force together the two ribs adjacent the pivot. Similarly, at the lower ends of the main rib portions of clamps ill pivoted at 20 and serving to secure the pairs of ribs tightly together at this end. Adjacent the opening extremity of the flaring parts M is a clamp 2i pivoted to the ribs at 22, the clamp being substantially of C-shape.
The core arrangement for this device includes, for each flaring part of the mold, a frustoconical portion 23 having a peripheral flange 2 provided with a shoulder 25. In use the flange 24 has its outer part resting on the face of the extremity of the flaring mold portion and the shoulder 25 engages within the mouth of the flaring portion and holds the frusto-conical part 23 spaced from the wall of the mold proper as at 2%. Extending downwardly from top to bottom of the main part of the mold is a metallic cylindrical core 26 which has projecting from one side a lateral core portion of cylindrical form as shown at 27. The core parts 23 have at their minor ends internal flanges 28 which fit on and are fixedly secured to the cylindrical core parts. In order to hold the lateral part of the core de tachable to the main portion thereof a headed rod 29 extends through the closed end 3i] of the core part 21 and through the Wall of the core part 26, being there provided with a nut 35.
In order to support the core and mold in pouring position there is provided an L-shaped bracket having a foot part 32 on which the flange 24 of the vertical part of the core rests. This bracket has a vertical part 31 resting against the flange 24 of the lateral part 23. The sea clamp 2! looks these lateral core parts, the flange 2:3 and the vertical bracket portion 3! firmly together. In order to provide for proper filling, a conical closure 38 is fitted in the upper end of the vertical core portion. In use the two halves are assembled around the core portions and there securely locked by the clamps. The cementitious material desired to be molded is then poured into the top of the mold so as to flll the space between the mold and the core and thus produce at the botltom and lateral terminal portions a pocketed bel What is claimed, is:
1. In a molding device for cement pipe fittings, the combination of a pair of complementary mold halves each having an upper semi-cylindrical upper part and a conically flaring lower part, each half further having a semi-cylindrical inner portion leading radially from a respective upper half part and each provided with a conically flaring terminal portion, cooperative means securing said halves in assembled relation, core pieces spaced concentrically within said flaring portions and partially closing the open ends of the flaring portions of the mold, each of said core pieces having a frusto-conical body provided on its major periphery with an integral external flange engaging the end face of the respective flaring portion of the mold to close the mold, a
main core of tubular form, a lateral core of tubular form, said cores being of constant diameter throughout, an L-shaped bracket on the lower arm of which the first mentioned flaring portion of the mold rests, the vertical arm engaging against the flange of the lateral closure, and a single clip holding the lateral mold portion and last arm releasably together.
2. In a molding device for cement pipe fittings, the combination of a pair of complementary mold halves each having an upper semi-cylindrical upper part and a conically flaring lower part, each half further having a semi-cylindrical inner portion leading radially from a respective upper half part and each provided with a conically flaring terminal portion, cooperative means securing said halves in assembled relation, core pieces spaced concentrically within said flaring portions and partially closing the open ends of the flaring portions of the mold, each of said core pieces having a frusto-conical body provided on its major periphery with an integral external flange engaging the end face of the respective flaring portion of the mold to close the mold, a main core of tubular form, a lateral core of tubular form, said cores being of constant diameter throughout, said closures each including a frustoconical portion coaxial with and spaced from the inner surface of a flaring portion of the mold, an L-shaped bracket on the lower arm of which the first mentioned flaring portion of the mold rests, the vertical arm engaging against the flange of the lateral closure, and a single clip holding the lateral mold portion and last arm releasably together.
3. In a molding device for cement pipe fittings, the combination of a pair of complementary mold halves each having an upper semi-cylindrical upper part and a conically flaring lower part, each half further having a semi-cylindrical inner portion leading radially from a respective upper half part and each provided with a conically flaring terminal portion, cooperative means securing said halves in assembled relation, core pieces spaced concentrically within said flaring portions and partially closing the open ends of the flaring portions of the mold, each of said core pieces having a frusto-conical body provided on its major periphery with an integral external flange engaging the end face of the respective flaring portion of the mold to close the mold, a main core of tubular form, a lateral core of tubular form, said cores being of constant diameter throughout, closures each including a frustoconical portion coaxial with and spaced from the inner surface of a flaring portion of the mold, each closure having an outwardly extending flange at its major end engaging against the end face of a respective mold portion, an L-shaped bracket on the lower arm of which the first mentioned flaring portion of the mold rests, the vertical arm engaging against the flange of the lateral closure, and a single clip holding the lateral mold portion and last arm releasably together.
4. In a molding device for cement pipe fittings, the combination of a pair of complementary mold halves each having an upper semi-cylindrical upper part and a conically flaring lower part, each half further having a semi-cylindrical inner portion leading radially from a respective upper half part and each provided with a conically flaring terminal portion, cooperative means securing said halves in assembled relation, core pieces spaced concentrically within said flaring portions and partially closing the open ends of the flaring portions of the mold, each of said core pieces having a frusto-conical body provided on its major periphery with an integral external flange engaging the end face of the respective flaring portion of the mold to close the mold, a main core of tubular form, a lateral core of tubular form, said cores being of constant diameter throughout, closures each including a frustoconical portion. coaxial with and spaced from the inner surface of a flaring portion of the mold, each closure having an outwardly extending flange at its major end engaging against the end face of a respective mold portion, also having an inwardly extending flange at its small end surrounding a respective core portion, an L-shaped bracket on the lower arm of which the first mentioned flaring portion of the mold rests, the vertical arm engaging against the flange of the lateral closure, and a'single clip holding the lateral mold portion and last arm releasably together.
