THOMAS BOUDREN, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOB OF ONE- HALF TO THE WHITE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
TOILET-CASE FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,658, dated November 14, 1882;
Application filed October 13, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS BOUDREN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of i 5 Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ToiletCases for Vehicles; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled 1o in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. A
Myinvention relates to certain newvand useful improvements in devices known as toiletcases adapted for coaches and vehicles gent 5 erally, and has for its object economy of coni struction and simplicity in the arrangement and adaptation ot' its parts; and, with these ends in view, my invention consists in the details ot' construct-ion and combination ot' elczo ments, hereinafter fully described, and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to whichmy invention appertains may more fully understand how to make my improved device,
25 I will proceed to describe fully and in. detail its construction and adaptation, referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my device, show ing aclock-face through acentral opening; and
go Fig. 2, a top view, showing the different compartments for toilet articles.
Similar letters denote like parts in both ligures of thedrawings. Y
Ais the back ot' the case` proper, having 35 therein pockets B for the reception of scentbottles, and a compartment, C, adapted to receive a hand-mirror. Detachabl y fastened to this back piece is anl ornamental front easing, D, having a central circular opening, E, and
4o extending` out from said back piece, as shown in the drawings, in order to form spaces Fat the sides of said casin g for the accommodation of miscellaneous articles, which may be desirable or useful for toilet purposes. Between 4 5 these spaces is a pocket, G, adapted to receive aclock, H, the face of which is seen through the central opening, E. This casing D is formed of tin or sheet metal and the pocket Gr is soldered thereto, and the whole is covered with leather and secured to the wooden back A by' means of screws and ornamental caps I.
Toilet-cases have been constructed previonsly ot' diversshapes and designs, but are generally intended as portable conveniences which are not applicable to vehiclesI 5 and my devicemoreover has the advantage of having the front casing detachable, so that the back piece may be permanently secured to the vehicle, while the casing D may or may not be attached, and when so attached may be readily detached, whenever desired, without likewise at the same time disturbing the back piece, A; also, by making the front and back separate, I am enabled to ett'eet a more desirable/combination and ahandsomer design by covering the front with any suitable kind and style ot' leather and painting or staining the back. Otl course it will be readily understood that I am enabled to produce similar results by making the front casing ot' wood or any suitable material formed into the desired shape, and with the clockpocket glued or otherwise secured to said casing; but metal is better suited for Vwear in devices ot' this nature, and is more readily struck up into the proper shape.
.Having describedmy invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In atoilet-case for vehicles, the back piece, A, with compartments B C therein, and a detachable front casing, D, extended forward, and having secured thereto the clock-pocket G, and provided with central opening, E,substan tially as hereinbefore shown and described.
2. In a toilet-case for vehicles, the front casing, l), provided with a clock-pocket, Cr, and the back piece,A, provided with compartments B C, the front and back pieces being detachably connected, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. l In testimony whereof 1 affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
