My invention relates to improvements in bedside hangers and screens for urine bottles such as are commonly used in hospitals, and the like.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a simple form of hanger for suspending a urine bottle and screen at the side of a bed with the bottle hidden from view. by the screen and which is especially designed for easy quick attachment to and detachment from a side rail of the bed and provides for easy removal and replacement of the bottle and swinging of the screen into an out-of-the-way position for access to the bottle as occasion may require.

Another object is to provide in a hanger for the above purposes, an attaching clip especially designed to conformably fit and frictionally engage the conventional angle iron type side rail of beds of commerce.

Still another object is to provide a hanger for the above purposes adapted for suspending a screen sheet, such as a towel, in front of the bottle to hide the bottle from view and providing for easy removal and replacement of the sheet, or towel, when required.

Other and subordinate objects, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification.

In said drawing:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in front elevation illustrating my invention in the preferred embodiment thereof;

Figure 2 is a view in vertical transverse section taken on the line 22 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in rear elevation;

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view in side elevation of the latch means for the screen sheet carrying rod; and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary view partly in plan and partly in horizontal section of the screen sheet suspending means.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, according to my invention, a hanger I is provided comprising a shank 2, an upper end attaching clip 3, and a lower end hook 4 for suspending the usual urine bottle 5 by the handle 6 thereof. The shank 2, clip 3 and hook 4 are preferably formed of fiat resilient metal.

The clip 3 is especially constructed for attachment to the conventional angle iron type side rail 1 of a bed illustrated fragmentarily at 8. such side rails I are arranged to provide a top flange 9 and a front flange l0 and the clip 3 is of elongated rectangular, fiat book form and extends transversely of the shank so as to conformably fit forwardly over said flanges 9, I0 and in said rail 1 with a front side of the shank 2 fitted fiat against the rear side of the flange Ill. The clip 3 opens forwardly and is provided with a right angled free end ll hooking over the upper front corner edge of the rail 1 to hold said clip in place. Preferably the clip 3 frictionally grips the side rail 1 for sliding along the same into different adjusted positions.

The hook 4 opens forwardly and upwardly for conveniently inserting the handle 6 of the bottle 5 into said hook, and inclines downwardly and rearwardly of the shank 2 to dispose the bottle 5 under the bed 8 but within convenient reach of an occupant of the bed leaning outwardly from said bed for grasping said bottle to remove the same oif said hook. A rolled beak on said hook 4 prevents injuring of the hands in removing and replacing the bottle 5.

The hanger l includes means for suspending a screen sheet [3, preferably a towel, in front of the hook 4 and bottle 5 to hide said hook and bottle from view. The sheet suspending means comprises a transverse, front bar [4 on the shank 2 suitably fixed horizontally, intermediate its ends, as by rivets [5 to the front side of said shank 2 at a suitable point intermediate the clip 3 and hook 4 to dispose said bar directly below the rail 7, said bar having forwardly extending end ears l6, I? for a purpose presently seen. The screen sheet I3 is carried by a rod l8 slidably inserted through an upper hem 19 in said sheet l3 and said rod is provided on one end with an eye 20 hingedly connected, as shown in Figure 5, to the ear H5 at one end of said bar I4, for swinging of said rod and screen horizontally forwardly, away from the bottle 5, for access to said bottle.

Latch means on the other end ear I! of the bar l4 provides for securing said rod in parallel relation to said bar I 4 to arrange the screen sheet I3 in front of the bottle 4 and hook 5 for hiding the same. The latch means preferably comprises a notch 2] in the ear I! receiving the free end of the rod [8, and a resilient forked catch 22 fixed to said ear I! by a. screw 23 and yieldingly gripping said free end of the rod l8 when said end is inserted in the notch 2 I.

As will now be seen, the clip 3 when attached to the rail 1 may be slid along said rail into selected position while the hanger I is stabilized against swinging. The screen sheet 13, when the rod 18 is latched, hides the hook 4, bottle 5 and a major part of the shank 2 from view, and the rod l8 may be pulled loose from the catch 22 and swung away from said hook and bottle for access to the same for removing and replacing said bottle, and also for removing and replacing the screen sheet 13 as desired. When the rod I8 is so swung, an occupant of the bed 8 may remove the bottle 5 conveniently and use the screen sheet [3 and said screen sheet may be swung by the occupant of the bed into covering relation to the hook 4 and bottle 5 by one hand. As will be manifest, a particular advantage of my invention is that it obviates the display of such a bottle on a bedside table or the like.

The foregoing will, it is believed, sufifice to impart a clear understanding of my invention, without further explanation.

Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, claimed as new is:

1. A hanger and screen for a urine bottle comprising a clip attachable to the side rail of a bed,

a. hanger hook depending from said clip for suswhat is pending the bottle, a horizontal rod on said hook transverse thereto, and a screen sheet suspended from said rod to hide the suspended bottle from view.

2. A hanger and screen for a urine bottle comprising a hanger hook for suspending the bottle and attachable at one end to the side rail of a bed, a screen sheet for hiding said bottle from view, and means to suspend said sheet from said hook comprising a bar on said hook transverse thereto, and a rod pivoted to said bar and suspending said sheet for swinging into and out of hiding relation to said bottle.
