PORTABLE CLOTHES HANGER HOLDER AND CARRIER Filed 'July 11, 1950 V \INVENTORS. )6 SAMUEL KAPLA/V BY Lou/s .STARK A T T ORNEY Patented May 27, 1952 PORTABLE CLOTHES HANGER HOLDER AND CARRIER Samuel Kaplan, New York; and Louis Stark,
Brooklyn, 'N. Y., assignors to Kastar Incorporated, Bronx, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application Julyll, 1950, Serial No. 173,126
The present invention relates to a portable clothes hanger holder and carrier and more particularly to a portable clothes hanger, holder and carrier adapted to be secured to an automobile window by means of a supporting post and having a removable, unitary carrying handle and hanger supporting arm adapted to be hung on a conventional closet bar by means of a hook integral with such arm. 1
It is an object of the present invention to provide a portable clothes hanger holder and carrier that may be readily secured to an automobile window by having a supporting member that fits into the glass channels at the top and the bottom of the window and which may be secured thereto without the necessity of using any tools, or in any way altering or injuring the window frame or vehicle body itself as by placing any permanent holes therein or applying any fixtures thereto.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a hanger supporting carrier that is detachably applied to the members used to secure the total structure to the window channels and which may therefore be removed from the car while still supporting the clothes carried on hangers and used as a carrying handle.
It is an object of the present invention to incorporate in the structure a carrying handle that will provide an easy and comfortable means for carrying the clothes thereon to and from the automobile, the carrying handle being especially designed to fit the human hand.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a hanger supporting arm that may be readily hung onto the conventional clothes supporting bar found in closets, and when so hung will properly support the clothes and so position the hangers that they may easily be removed and then rehung again. Thus, when traveling, it would not be necessary for the passenger to remove the clothes from the hanger supporting carrier but they could all be easily carried from the car to the hotel room or wherever the party was staying temporarily, and hung in the closet there, still without having to remove the clothes from the hanger supporting carrier.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a structure that is free from any chance of rattling. The supporting member is adapted to fit tightly against the window frame and the hanger support carrier is snugly wedged to the supporting member. Clothes hung on the hanger support carrier will have a tendency to tighten, not loosen this connection. This anti-rattling feature of the present invention is very important 4 Claims. (Cl. 224L42.45)
in a device of the type herein disclosed. Even the smallest vibration noise or rattling can become extremely disturbing on a journey of any substantial distance.
A device embodying the present invention. although inexpensive to manufacture, is also of sturdy and durable construction which is also an important'feature of a device 'of the type here involved, since it its likely to-be subject to rough handling and abuse andprobably will be loaded beyond what would be assumed to be normal capacity.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be more readily apparent from the following description. and drawing of one specific embodiment of the present invention in which drawing:
Fig. 1 is a partially broken away side elevation of a device embodying the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a partially broken away front elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along line 33 on Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-.--4 on Fig. l, and;
V Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the hanger supporting carrier hung on a conventional closet rod and carrying a plurality of articles of apparel on clothes hangers.
The supporting post III is adapted to be held in position by the upper and lower windowchannels of an automobile window. Removably secured to the supprting post I0 is the hanger supporting carrier I I. The hanger supporting carrier I I has a hanger hook receiving portion I2, a carrying handle portion I3 and a closet bar hook I4. The supporting post I0 comprises an upper member I5 and a lower member I6. The lower member I6 is threaded, and is slidably received in recess I I of the upper member but is not threaded therein. The lower member I5 is provided with an end portion I8 having a depending flange I9, adapted to fit into the lower window channel. The upper end of the upper member I5 is similarly formed having an offset portion 20 and an upthe supporting post at the upper end of the upper member I5 and the pins'ZLfit into the horizontal slot or groove 26. The supporting post In is formed in its upper l portion in the shape of a rectangular'channelefl 'into which .thesecuring portion 28 of thehanger;
