TRACE-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,852, dated October 31, 1882 Application filed June 19, 1882. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Home MALO, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at WVellington, in the county of Iroquois and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Trace-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trace-carriers for harness; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a side elevation view of my improved trace-carrier, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the said drawings, A represents the backband or pad of a harness; B, the rein-hook, attached thereto in the ordinary manner, with the eyes 6 0 6 to which are attached the back strap and shaft-bearers. On each side of the rein-hook, at the rear, is a small projection or horn, a, curved out, as shown, and bent up at their ends, forming hooks 0, over which the cockeye of the trace is liooked,asindicated by dotted lines. In the forward end of each hook c is hinged a latch, b, in such a manner that it allows the cockeye to be readily placed over the hook, but prevents it from coming off jecting trace-carriers, and also that checkhooks have been provided with latches or drop-pieces pivoted to the end of said checkhook. I am not aware, however, that a combined check-hook and trace-carrier of the form shown and hereinbefore described, and having drop-latches pivoted to the trace-hooks, as specified, has hitherto been used; and therefore lVhat I claim as my invention is- As an improved article of manufacture, a combined check-hook and trace-carrier, consisting of the check-hook B, having eyes 0 c, and provided with rear branches or horns, a to, having trace-hooks o c, with drop-latches b I) pivoted thereto, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
