Description

Dec. 29, 1953 H. S. LANIER ADJUSTABLE TELEVISION OR RADIO CABINET BASE Filed Jan. 24, 1952 QELN 3 fzflSLL'arz/z'ei INVENTOR BY 17 I I I ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 29, 1953 UNITED STATES ADJUSTABLE TELEVISION R RADIO CABINET BASE Harold S. Lanier, Welcome, N. 0.
Application January 24, 1952, Serial No. 268,000
1 Claim.
This invention relates to cabinet bases and aims to provide a cabinet base of the adjustable type for use in supporting table model television or radio sets of various sizes, lending a console eifect to the usual television and radio table sets.
An important object of the invention is to provide a cabinet base of this character which will not only enhance the appearance of television or radio sets supported thereon, but will be ex- With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of partsherein- I after more fully described andpointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be 'made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the pirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet base constructed in accordance with the invention, the lower front edges of the front and one side panel being broken away.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3'3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the cabinet base comprises corner members 5 which constitute the front corner members of the cabinet base, while the corner member 6 constitute the rear corner members of the cabinet base.
The corner members 5 embody upper and lower bars 1 connected by the vertical boards 8, the bars 1 at the upper and lower ends of the boards 8 being arranged at right angles with respect to each other.
The screws 9 are embedded in the bars I and are fitted in the slots 10 formed at the ends of the upperand lower adjustable bars II and [2 respectively, securing the bars II and 12 to the bars I of the corner members in such a way that adjustment of the bars II and I2 with respect to the corner members will be permitted to vary the size of the cabinet base and adapt it for use with television or radio cabinets of various sizes.
The rear bars I of the corner members 6 are provided with ribs [3 that extend inwardly there- 2 from, the ribs being disposed longitudinally of the rear bars 1.
The upper and lower bars M, which connect the rear corner members at the rear of the cabinet base, are formed with grooves i5 that fit over the ribs 53 to permit the bars M to slide thereover, the ribs and grooves providing means rigidly connecting the rear corner members and stabilizing the entire cabinet base.
The elongated openings it are formed in the bars It and accommodate the headed screws ll which pass into openings formed in the ribs l3, securing the bars it against movement with respect to the rear corner members 0. 1
As clearly shown by the drawing, the upper and lower bars of the cabinet base are provided with grooves 58 formed in the adjacent inner edges thereof, the grooves extending longitudinally of the bars. These grooves accommodate the upper and lower edges of the panels if! that close the sides, front and back of the cabinet base,
securing the panels in position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a cabinet'wherein the sides, front and I back sections thereof may be adjusted with respect to each other to expand or reduce the size of the cabinet to permit the positioning of a television or radio cabinet of a particular size, to be fitted and supported thereon,'lending an appearance simulating a console cabinet.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A cabinet base including a frame comprising pairs of front and rear corner members, each corner member including pairs of upper and lower bars the bars of each pair extending at right angles with respect to each other horizontally, ribs extending inwardly from arms of the rear corner member's, connecting bars having grooves fitted over said ribs, said connecting bars having elongated openings disposed opposite to said ribs, securing screws in said elongated openings and embedded in the ribs holding the connecting bars in positions of adjustment with respect to the corner members, connecting bars adjustably connected with the remaining corner members, and panels closing the sides of the frame.
HAROLD S. LAN IER.
