l This invention relates to brushes and more particularly to a suction brush particularly adaptable to clean Venetian blinds and the like. An important object of the present invention is to provide a tool or device by means of which a plurality of substantially at surfaces may be cleaned on both sides simultaneously.
Another object is that the device as set forth, is adaptable to'be attached to the suction hose of a vacuum cleaner or the like whereby the dust and the like is vraised by the brushing operation While the dust is sucked or drawn by the hose of the vacuum cleaner.
Other apparent objects are the provision of a comparatively inexpensive, strong, durable and efficient article as set forth.
Broadly the invention comprises a hollow body portion to which are attached ra plurality of slightly curved lingers or arms kand a corresponding number of movable ngers or arms disposed immediately adjacent the rst mentioned fingers. A socket is also formed integrally with the body as well as a carrying handle to operate the device.
Although the handle is shown as being separate from the socket, it may easily and without departing from the spirit of the present invention be part of said socket. The socket referred to herein is that to which the suction hose of a vacuum cleaner is attached to suck in the dust loosened by the bristles of the iixed and movable fingers.
All the movable ngers are connected to the body by means of a ball and socket joint and they are all interconnected to each other and operated by a single trigger or lever mounted on the handle of the device. A spring is used to close the fingers when the pressure is released from the trigger.
With these and other objects in View that may appear while the description proceeds the invention consists in the novel arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention and Fig. 2 is a fragmental view showing how the movable fingers are mounted for operation.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, it will be seen the invention consists of a longitudinal rectangular hollow body 5 having each of its extremities t sealed, a plurality of iixed fingers l also of hollow rectangular construction, a plurality of movable ngers 8 of similar construction to ngers l disposed adjacent said first mentioned fingers and a socket 9 on which is fastened the free extremity of a vacuum cleaner suction hose. Bristles Il) are mounted on all fingers to loosen the dust and a plurality of perforations Il through the fingers 'I and 3 suck in the dust.
The movable ingers 8 are attached to the body 5 and are mounted on a perforated ball l2 much like the common ball and socket joint. On ea-ch movable linger at a predetermined position from the joint is mounted a rivet I3. To open the iingers in order to insert them over the slats of a Venetian blind, a trigger M is provided and is mounted on the side of the handle I5 by means of a rivet I6.
A connecting rod il is slidably mounted on one of the vertical Walls of the body 5 and is loosely held in brackets I8.
A number of links i9 corresponding to the number of movable ngers are riveted to said connecting rod and extend therefrom in a lateral direction. The outer extremity of each link is formed with a longitudinal slot 20. Said slot being disposed below the head and over the body of rivets I3.
The extremity 2| of the trigger is formed with a. similar slot which is inserted over a rivet 22 on the connecting rod Il and when the trigger is Iurged upward it transmits a rearward motion to the connecting rod. This motion will force open all the movable fingers and then the device is inserted over a number of slats corresponding to the number of fingers.
In order to return or close the movable fingers 8, the link I9a at the rear extremity of the device extends above the connecting rod il' at 23 and is formed with an aperture 2li. A coil spring 25 has one of its extremities secured through said aperture and its other secured to a rivet 26 mounted a distance ahead of the extension 23. The said spring 25 will cause the fingers t to close when the trigger is released.
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the invention may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings without further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of co-operating elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim: A
l. A device for cleaning Venetian blind slats comprising an elongated hollow body having a socket for connection with a suction line, a series of spaced apart xed hollow arms extending laterally from and in communication with said body, a series of hollow movable arms pivotally mounted to said body adjacent to said fixed arms and in communication with said body, said movable arms being capable of movement towards and from said fixed arms, said iixed and movn able arms having apertures in their confronting faces, bristles mounted in the confronting faces of said fixed and movable arms, a connecting bar mounted for longitudinal sliding movement on said body, a series of links extending laterally from said connecting bar having pivotal 'connection with said movable arms, manual means for moving said connecting bar in one direction to swing said movable arms from said fixed arms and spring means for moving said connecting bar in the opposite direction to swing said mov-- able arms towards said fixed arms.
2. A device or cleaning Venetian blind slats comprising an elongated body, a plurality of xed arms extending laterally from said body in spaced apart relation, a plurality of movable arms pivotally mounted to said body adjacent to said xed arms and movable towards and from said iixed arms, a connecting bar slidably mounted on said body having connection with each of said movable arms, means for sliding said bar to move said movable arms to closed and open position, said body and 'arms being of hollow construction with apertures in the confronting faces or" the fixed and movable arms, and means for connecting said hollow body with a suction line.
3. A device as described in claim 2 having ball and socket joints connecting said movable arms to said body.
4. .A device for cleaning Venetian blind slats comprising an elongated body, a plurality of fixed arms extending laterally from said body in spaced apart relation, a plurality of movable arms pivotally mounted to said body adjacent to said fixed arms and movable towards and from said xed arms, said xed and movable arms being curved in a longitudinal direction, bristles projecting from the confronting faces of said fixed and movable arms, a connecting bar slidably mounted on said body having connection with each of said movable arms, and means for sliding said bar to move said movable arms towards and from said fixed arms.
