Application August 28, 1946, serial No. 693,465
1 claim. 1
This invention pertains to a vacuum cleaner attachment and more especially has reference to a brush adapted to clean the slats of Venetian blinds and the like.
The principal objects of our invention are to provide an attachment for conventional vacuum cleaners which is particularly adapted for insertion between the slats of Venetian blinds; which is provided with improved and highly efficient cleaning means for said slats; which is well adapted for construction from an inexpensive and plentiful lightweight material such as a plastic composition; and which is simple and compact in construction and of neat appearance.
These, together with various auxiliary objects which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are realized by our invention, the accompanying drawings of which are to be regarded as illustrative only of the principles thereof; and wherein:
Figure 1 is a lside elevation of the invention illustrating the manner of its employment;
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken upon line 2-2 of Figure 1; and,
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
In the annexed drawings, wherein like refer ence characters identify similar parts in the several views, the attachment comprises a tubular neck portion HB adapted to be connected to the suction line |20 of a conventional vacuum cleaner (not shown), and is angularly disposed integrally upon a head portion H4 which is shown in operative engagement with a Venetian blind I I having slats H2. Since the head portion is elongated, the neck portion is inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the former as shown clearly in Figure 1. The head portion is bifurcated to provide parallel spaced flattened hollow furcations H5 and H1 which are appropriately spaced for straddling a blind leaf or slat H2 therebetween while extending between said leaf and the adjacent blinds, thus cleaning four slat surfaces simultaneously.
Each flattened hollow furcation is generally rectangular in cross-section and includes orifices I IB extending through the upper and lower faces thereof. Base plates |26 are suitably fastened to the upper and lower faces of each furcation and are provided with apertures |28 in registry with the orifices H8. Secured by any appropriate means to the base plates are bristles |22 having passages |24 in registry with the aforementioned apertures and orifices. When employing the attachment, it will be recognized that four slat surfaces will be simultaneously cleaned, the bristles |22 loosening the dirt or dust from the slats and the air currents removing the same through the passages |24 and the apertures and orifices |28 and H8, respectively.
We claim as our invention:
A vacuum cleaner attachment for dusting Venetian blinds having vertically spaced horizontal slats consisting of a head having an elongated bfurcated portion and an integral tubular neck portion inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the bifurcated portion, the furcations of said bifurcated portion being disposed one above the other when in position to receive a horizontal slat between them, each furcation being hollow and having a generally rectangular cross-section, the upper and lower faces of each furcation being flattened, spaced orices extending through the upper and lower faces of each furcation, base plates secured to the upper and lower faces of each furcaticn and being provided with apertures registering with said orifices, and bristles mounted on said base plates and surrounding said orifices.
