My invention relates to improvements y'in Venetian blind cleaning apparatus and more particularly, the invention consists of a slat duster. An object of the present invention is to provide means for engaging and wiping both sides of a Venetian blind slat in one operation.

Another object of my invention is to provide a pair of spring actuated jaws having dusting members thereon for wiping an elongated slat.

A further object of this invention is to provide a pair of spring handles for opening the jaws against said spring action.

Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanyingy illustrative drawings in which:

Figure 5 is an end View of one of the jaws with a duster attached.

In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specication, the same reference charac ters are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which the numeral It refers to my invention in its entirety and the numeral li indicates a pliers device, the Shanks l2 and I3 of which are pivotally connected at M, and their portions l5 and I6 are connected by a pull spring Il which is adapted to hold the projecting fiat ends I8 and I9 normally closed. The outer ends 2! and 2| of the Shanks form a handhold whereby the jaws i8 and I9 may be opened up to engage a Venetian blind slat (not shown). Fixed to the members i8 and le are a pair of relatively long jaw elements or wiper supporting plates 22 and 23 and upon the inner sur faces 2d and 25, felt or lambs wool dusting devices or pads 21 and 28 are removably attached by snap fasteners 26. 22, 23, 21 and 28 have their outer ends, at 29 and 30, bifurcated to provide slots 3! and 32 to straddle cords, tapes, etc'. of the blind as said cleaner is reciprocated back and forth from end to end of each blind slat.

In Figure 5, I show a modification of the invention in which the rigid jaws 33 are formed concave-convex transversely thereof and the dusters lill naturally will form to the shape of the jaws 33. This form of the invention is intended for use on metal slats which are commonly made concavo-convex in cross section. The rst de# scribed form of the invention obviously is made for flat slats such as wooden slats.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a device for dusting and cleaning Venetian blinds of a nature easy to connect with the slats and which will clean around cords, tapes, etc. connecting the slats.

It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.

Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.

Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:

i. A device as described comprising a pair of elongated jaw elements, means whereby said jaw elements are normally held closed one upon the other, dusters being removably carried by each of the jaw elements, and pliers upon which the jaw elements are mounted, said means including a spring connecting the Shanks of the pliers for urging the jaw elements together, each of the jaw elements having bifurcated ends, the furca-u tions of each jaw element overlapping and aligned with those of the other jaw element, the inner edge of each furcation being rounded, said jaw elements having a series of spaced buttons for engagement with snap sockets on the dusters, said pliers including means for separating the jaw elements. f 2. A device as decribed comprising `a pair of elongated jaw elements, means whereby said jaw elements are normally held closed one upon the other, dusters being removably carried by each of the jaw elements, and pliers upon which the jaw elements are mounted, said means including a spring connecting the Shanks of the pliers for urging the jaw elements together, each of the jaw elements having bifurcated ends, the furcations of each jaw element overlapping and aligned with those of the other jaw element, and the inner corners of each furcation being rounded, said pliers including means for separating the jaw elements.

A device as described comprising a pair of elongated jaw elements, means whereby said jaw elements are normally held closed one upon the other, dusters being removably carried by each of the jaw elements, and pliers upon which the jaw elements are mounted, said means including a spring connecting the shanks of the pliers for urging the jaw elements together, each of the jaw elements having bifurcated ends, and the furcations of each jaw element overlapping and aligned with those of the other jaw element, said pliers including means for separating the jaw elements.

A device as described comprising a pair of elongated jaw elements, means whereby said jaw elements are normally held closed one upon the other, clusters being removably carried by each of the jaw elements, and pliers upon which the jaw elements are mounted, said means consisting of a spring connecting the Shanks of the pliers for urging the jaw elements together, and each of the jaw elements having bifurcated ends, said pliers including means for separating the jaw elements.

5. A cleaning device for Venetian blind slats comprising a pair of cooperating members pivotally connected together intermediate their ends, spaced apart handle portions formed at one side of said pivotal connection, parallel extending jaws on the opposite side of said pivotal connection, a coil tensioning spring connecting said members between said jaws and said pivotal connection, elongated wiper supporting plates detachably secured to said jaws and formed with 4 centrally disposed inwardly extending slots in their opposite ends, and dusting pads supported on the inner surfaces of said plates whereby the handle portions of the device may be compressed to open the dusting pad supporting plates While positioning the same upon a blind slat to be reciprocated back and forth, said pads being formed with slots complementary to the slots in said plates, said slots in the ends of the plates and pads permitting the device to dust either of the opposite ends of the slats by permitting the plates and pads to pass around the sash cords.
