2 Claims. (Cl. 206-79) This invention relates to a display card for spectacles, and more particularly for the display of sunglasses.

Heretofore sunglasses have usually been mounted on cards having holes punched in them through which the temples of the sunglass frames are pushed to support the articles on the card.

Display cards of that character are subject to the disadvantages, among others, that the major portion of the temples is concealed from view of the prospective purchaser, and that temples are apt to become distorted or strained with the result that the glasses will not fit properly.

With these defects of the prior art display cards in mind, it is an object of my invention to provide a card on which the complete sunglass I including the temples is visible on the face or front surface of the card.

Another object of the invention is to provide a card on which sunglasses may be mounted and supported without distorting the temples.

A further object of the invention is to provide a card on which the sunglasses may be easily and quickly mounted, and when so mounted will be held securely in place.

The invention will appear from the following description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. l is a fragmentary face view of a display card embodying the invention.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary rear view of the card.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the card with its parts arranged or set up for mounting of a sunglass thereon.

Fig. 4 is a face view of the card showing a sunglass mounted thereon, the sunglass being outlined by dot and dash lines.

Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.

The card comprises a flat blank I of pasteboard or like material of any suitable width, thickness and length. Several sunglass mounting units, each indicated generally by the reference numeral II, are formed on the card at spaced intervals.

Each unit is defined by two cuts or slits I2 that extend through the material of the card, which cuts may converge slightly downward and terminate at their lower ends in outwardly directed cuts I3, the latter being connected by a bottom cut it having upwardly directed sides I that are preferably rounded. The cuts I4 and I5 to ether form laterally extending wings or tabs I6 at the lower end of the unit. At the interior of each unit isa substantially U-shaped cut I! that forms a tongue I8 in the unit.

Furthermore, as shown in Fig. 1, it will be seen that each unit I I is formed with several. scores to facilitate proper bending into position required for mounting the sunglasses on the card. One score line I9 extends from the top end of one of the pair of cuts or slits I2 to the other, preferably at a slant. Other score lines 20 extend horizontally from the outer cuts or slits I2 to the upright arms of the U-shaped cut I1. An additional score line 2I extends at the vertical median line of the unit from the bottom out I4 to the lower end of the U-shaped cut H.

The score I9 permits of bending the unit outward from the plane of the card. The scores 29 and 2| permit of bending the lower portion of the unit. that is the portion below the scores 29, at an angle to the upper portion in such manner that the wings or tabs I6 may be caught on the rear face of the card under the edges 22 formed by the cuts I2. On so bending the unit the tongue I8 will automatically protrude outwardly and forward. The form that the unit assumes on being bent is shown in Fig. 3.

In mounting the sunglass 23 on the card, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the temples 24 at the vicinity of the bridge or nose rest 25 are supported on the wings or tabs I6 and held by the unit I I, when the latter is bent as seen in Fig. 3. In that position the tongue I8 projects into the space directly below the bridge or nose rest 25 so as further to support the sunglass and to prevent it from being displaced or shifting sidewise.

It will be seen that my improved card permits of readily mounting the sunglasses for display,

and holds them securely in place when mounted on the card.

Various modifications in the shape and arrangement of the several cuts or slits, as well as of the score lines, may be made within the scope of the invention.

What I claim is:

l. A. display card for spectacles comprising a blank having a bendable unit formed therein for holding and supporting a pair of spectacles mounted on the card so that the article is visible on the front of the card, said unit being defined by a pair of spaced apart slits, the lower ends of said slits having outwardly directed portions which portions are connected by a bottom slit having upwardly directed side portions, said outwardly directed portions and said upwardly directed side portions together forming tabs at the lower end of the sides of said unit, a substantially U-shaped slit defining a tongue at the center of the unit, all of said slits extending through the thickness of the blank, the front face of the blank being scored to facilitate bending, one score being disposed across the upper ends of the first mentioned slits, other scores extending horizontally between said slits and the sides of the U-shaped slit at about the middle of the height of the unit, and another score extending vertically from the bottom slit to the lower end of the U-shaped slit at about the vertical median line of the unit.

2. A display card for spectaclesacomprising a blank having a bendable unit formed therein for holding and supporting a pair of "spectacles mounted on the card so that the article is visible;

on the front of the card, said unit being defined by a pair of downwardly converging spacedapart slits, the lower ends of said slits having outwardly directed portions which portions are connected by a bottom slit having-upwardly directed side portions, said outwardly directed portions; and said upwardly directed side portions together forming tabs at the lower end of'the sides of MORTON HOLLIS.
