Description

(No Model) H. D. SHRIVER.
BAG HOLDER.
Patented Oct. 3, 1882..
" w; ATTORNEYS.
WITNESSES 4 ihvrrnn ATES HENRY D. SHRIVER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,450, dated October 3, 1882,
Application filed April 17, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY D. SHRIVER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Baltimore, in thecounty of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in BagHolders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a front view of my bag-holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
This invention has relation to bag-holders; and it consists in theconstruction and novel arrangement, in connection with the removable bag-holding hopper or frame provided with hooks, of the cam-lever fastener and its anglebearing secured to the front of said hopper or 1'rame,all as hereinafter set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the truck-frame, which is made with a handle-stem, B, on which the bag-holding hopper or frame 0 is adjusted in proper position to suit the height of the sack.
1) indicates angle-irons, laterally arranged and secured to the back of the hopper O, and forming a bearing which embraces the stem B. In the space between the end flanges, E, of the angledrons is pivoted, by means of a transverse bolt or pin, a, the lever-cam F, which is formed with a serrated bearing-edge, b, to engage the stem B. Usually the levercam F is made sufficiently long to serve as a handle in adjusting the position of the hopper and as a prop when the holder and truck are in a horizontal position, holding the handlestem from the ground.
The hopper-frame O is provided with nonperforating cornerhooks Gr, over which the edge or the sack is engaged when carried around the lower portion of said hopper-frame. The object of the rounded hooks G is to prolong the usefulness of the bag by preventing (No model.)
| the fabric of which it is constructed from beor one side of said hopper-frame in line with p the hooks G, is arranged the angle-iron or angle-bearing H, the projecting flange or lug 7c of which is usually inclined a little upward. Over this flange-bearing It is pivoted a camlever, L, which is designed to engage said flange-bearing when turned, and will therefore securely hold the edge of the sack when interposed between the cam and the flangebearing.
By means of this device the hopper is readily adapted to sacks of diii'erent widths. It the mouth of the sack is loose, it is drawn closely around the lower portion ofthe hopperframe from each side toward the flange-bearing it, about which it is closely lapped and secured by means of the cam-lever L.
I am aware that the adjustable hopper and cam-lever are not new with me, and I make no claim whatever to them herein. I am also aware that it is not new to provide the ends of the vertically-adjustable hopper with camlevers and hearings to connect the bag thereto,
and neither do I claim this construction broadly.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
In a bag-holder, the combination, with the hopper or bagholding frame having the corner-hooks G at the lower front edge and back of the hopper, of the thin angle-bearing H, projecting in flange form at k, and the camlever L, pivoted to the front of the hopper between the front hooks, G, and operating in connection with said angle-bearing, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY I). SHRIVER.
