Description

`(No Modelf) H. H. FINN.
LIPTINGJAGK. N0. 265,048. Patented Sept. 26, 1882.
WMe/ases.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
`HENRY H. FINN, OF ELKDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
LIFTING-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,048, dated September 26, 11882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. FINN, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Elkdale,in the county of Susquehanna and State of Penn- Sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to jacky-lifts; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the different parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed. The object of my invention is to provide a powerful mechanism for the more convenient.
and easy raising or lowering of the various kinds of vehicles, either light or heavy, for the purposes of taking off and on their wheels in order to grease them, or for other purposes connecting with said vehicles. It may also be employed in any capacity where the necessity for raising or lowering any heavy body may exist or occur.
1n the drawing, A represents the block, upon which the said jack-lift is fastened solidly by any suitable means.
B is the upright central support or foot of the jack1ift, bolted to outside upright feet or supports, b, and rigidly held in position thereby, as shown, and attached to' block A by a screw-bolt and nut,a c, all three of these feety or supports B and b b being curved outwardly at their bottom ends from a point just immediately below the lower bolt or rivet c, which runs through all three feet or supports, as shown. l
C G are metal straps, one fastened rigidlyA to the top of central foot or support, B, by rivet e', and the other fastened in like manner rigidly on the'central support by rivet e" at a point equidistant, or nearly so, between the upper and lower rivets, c, of the outside up right supports or feet, b b.
D is the jack-lift post, passing through uprightly and loosely between the upper and lower metal straps, C G, for the purpose of receiving upon its upper or top end a bar or hook, d, of any form or shape, preferablyas herein shown. This littD is held in position and raised or lowered, as hereinafter described.
d is a bar or hook, having an' eye in one end which fits snugly on andaround the liftD and the other end curved or made hook shape, as shown, or it may be a straight bar, as fancy or expediency may dictate. This hook d may Application iled July', 1882. (No model.)
it will remain in proper positionv of its own accord,},sufciently so as to raise or lower light vehicles for the purposes hereinbefore meutioned; or it may be held in position by a thumb or set screw screwed tightly and rigidly against the lift D; or holes may be bored through the lift for the purpose of receiving a set-screw or pin, thereby holding the said bar or hook d in position for the raising or lowering of vehicles or other heavy bodies.
E is an upright link on one side of lift D, the lower end of which is fastened rigidly by rivet e to lift D, immediately above the lower metal strap C, and the upper end `of said link rigidly attached to the lower end and outside of a lever or split arm by a rivet, b', as shown.
E' is another upright link on the other side of lift D from link E, and in juxtaposition thereto, and held in position and operated by the same devices and operated in the same manner as link E.
F is a lever or arm, the lower end of which is curved and split in two parts, so that each ofthe two ends or split parts will lap on the be made to so snugly iit upon the lift D that sides of the lift D, and between said lit't D and the upper ends of links E E. The lower ends-of this lever or split arm and the upper ends of links E E are pivoted together by rivets b, as hereinbefore described. The lower or split end portion of lever F passes on each side of the central support or foot, B, and is bolted thereto by rivet-fat a point equidistant between the upper metal strap C and the top end of the supports b b, as shown in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a lift-jack, the combination of the support B, the lift-post D, sliding with the keepers C, and provided with an adjustable hook, d, the lever F, journaled in the support B, and the link E,jonrnaled to the lift-post and to the end of the lever F, all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof Iafx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VHENRY H. FINN.
