This invention relates to bed supported holders for slippers and the like articles.

An object of this invention is to provide a holder of the character described, which may be hung on a side rail of a bed, and which is provided with a tray or compartment that opens to the side of the bed so that slippers or other articles may be placed therein and thereby kept off the floor.

Another object of this invention is to provide a holder of the character described, which may be hung onto the strip attached to the side rail of the bed and which normally supports the bed boards, whereby slippers or other articles may be conveniently supported Ibeneath the bed springs of the bed.

Still a further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, which may be adjustable to accommodate bed rails having bed board supporting strips o-f various sizes.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a strong, rugged and durable holder` of the character described, which may be made of sheet metal, synthetic plastic or other material, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to mount on the rail of a bed, which shall be easy to clean `and which shall yet be practical and efficient to a high degree in use.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the fea. tures of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplied in` the construction hereinafter' described, and of which the scope of invention will be indicated in the following claims.

In the accompanying drawings in which are shown various illustrative embodiments of this invention,

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a holder embodying the invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the holder showing the same mounted on a bed rail and said bed rail being' shown in cross-section;

Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the structure shown in Fig. 2;

Fig. e is an elevational, transverse cross-sectional view of a holder embodying the invention and illustrating a modified construction;

Fig. 5 is a partial perspective view showing a detail.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, I0 designates a holder embodying the invention. Said holder comprises a tray I I. Said tray cornprises a horizontal bottom wall I2 which may be 2 rectangular in shape. Extending upwardly from the bottom wall I2 is a rear wall I3 and parallel side walls I4. The walls I3 and I4 are of equal height. The tray I I may be made of a single rpiece of sheet metal, if desired.

Attached to the top of the tray I I is a member I6 which may likewise be made of a single piece of sheet metal. Member I 6 comprises a horizontal rectangular wall II contacting the upper edges I4a of the side walls I4. Extending downwardly from the ends of wall II are flanges I8 which contact the outer surfaces of the sidewalls I4 and spot welded or soldered or otherwise yattached thereto.

It will be noted that the forward edge of the wall I'I is located rearwardly of the front edges I4b of the side walls I4.

Extending upwardly from the front end of wall I'I is a vertical wall I9. The wall I9 extends ibeyond the opposite side walls I4 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Extending forwardly from the upper end of vertical wall I9 is a horizontal wall or step 20 of the same length as the wall I9. EX- tending upwardly from the forward end of wall 2D is a vertical wall 2 I likewise of the same length as walls I9 and 20.

It will be noted that the wall 2l is in a plane disposed rearwardly of the vertical plane passing through the front edges Ieib of the side walls I4 and they forward edge I2a of the bottom wall I2.

It will now be understood that slippers or other articles may be placed within the tray I I to rest on the bottom wall I2.

The holder IIJ may be mounted on a side rail 25 of a bed as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The side rail 25 has attached to the inner surface 25a thereof, a longitudinal horizontal strip 26 usually located above the lower edge 25h of the side rail, for supporting a bed spring slat or board 30.

In mounting the holder I0 on the side rail 25. the wall 2U contacts the upper surface of the strip 2S. The wall 2| contacts the inner surface 25a. of the side rail 25 above the strip 26. The wall I9 may conta-ct the inner surface of the strip 26. The forward ends of the upper edges Ida of the side rails I4 may contact the under edge 25h of the side rail 25. The holder Ill is thus easily hung on the side rail of a bed. One of the boards or slats 3!) which supports the bed spring may have one of its ends resting on wall 20 to aid in preventing accidental shifting of the holder I0.

In Figs. 4 and 5 there is shown a holder Illa illustrating a modified construction. The holder lila, comprises a tray Il similar to the tray H shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. Attached to the top of the tray Il is a member 4U. Said member 40 comprises a top wall 4I similar to wall l 'l and provided with flanges 42 similar to flanges 8 and spot welded or otherwise attached to the outer surfaces of the side walls I4.

Extending upwardly from the front end of the top wall 4| is a vertical wall 43 from which extends forwardly a top wall 44. Extending upwardly from the wall 44 is a vertical wall 45. The ends of wall 43 are cut away at their lower edges where the wall extends beyond the side walls i4. Attached to the ends of member 4D are a pair of channel-shaped brackets 50. Each bracket 5i) comprises a top wall 5| contacting the top of and spot welded or otherwise .attached to one end of top wall 44. Extending downwardly from wall 5l is a wall 52 spot welded to the outer surface of one end of wall 43.

Extending outwardly from the lower end of wall 52 is a wall 53 formed with van internally screw threaded boss 54 to which is screwed a screw 55 having a pointed upper end.

It will be noted that the strip 26 is received within the channels formed by said members 5D. The screws 55 may be turned so that their upper pointed ends inipinge 4on the lower surfaces of the strip 25 thereby firmly clamping or attaching the holder lila to the strip.

Wall d5 may contact the inner surface 25a of the side rail 25. Wall 44 .contacts the upper surface of the strip 25. The holder l0a may be adjusted to t the strip 26. In some beds the strips 26 are located further above the lower edge 25h than in other side rails. Furthermore, the strips 26 may be of .different thickness. The adjustable screws 55 may nevertheless be adjusted to firmly clamp the holder to the strip.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States:

1. A holder of the character described, comprising a tray` having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front and at the top, a member having a transverse horizontal wall contacting the upper edges of the side walls of the Atray and iianges extending downwardly .from said transverse wall and attached to said side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from the forward end of the transverse wall, a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical wall, and a wall extending upwardly from the forward end of said last mentioned wall.

2. A holder of the character described, comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front and at the top, a member having a transverse horizontal wall contacting the upper edges of the side walls of the tray and flanges extending downwardly from said transverse wall and attached to said side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from the forward end of the transverse wall, a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical wall, a wall extending upwardly from the forward end of said last mentioned wall, and screw threaded means on said member for gripping the bed board strip of the side rail of a bed.

A holder of the character described, comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front and at the top, a member having a transverse horizontal wall contacting the upper edges of the side walls of the tray and iianges extending downwardly from said transverse wall and attached to said side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from the forward end of the transverse wall, a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical Wall, and a wall extending upwardly from the forward end of said last mentioned wall, said upstanding wall of said member being spaced from the front open end of the tray.

A holder of the character described comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and a member attached to the top of the side walls and adjacent the forward ends thereof and being formed with channel means opening to the front and adapted to receive a narrow bed board strip on the inner side of a side rail of a bed, spaced above the lower edge of the rail and on which strip the spring supporting slats are mounted, and clamp means on said channel means for clamping said member to said strip.

A holder lof the character described comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and a member attached to the top of the side walls and adjacent the forward ends thereof and being formed with channel means opening to the front and adapted to receive a narrow bed board strip on the inner side of a side rail of a bed, spaced above the lower edge of the rail and on which strip the spring supporting slats are mounted, and clamp means on said channel means for clamping said member to said strip, said side walls extending forwardly of said channel means.

A holder of the character described comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front, aI member having a transverse wall attached to the upper ends of the side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from said transverse wall and a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical wall.

A holder of the character described comprising `a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front, a member having a transverse wall attached to the upper ends of the side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from said transverse wall and a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical wall, said side walls extending forwardly beyond said forwardly extending wall.

A holder of the character described comprising `a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front, a member having a transverse horizontal wall attached to said side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from the forward end of said transverse wall, a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical wall, anges extending forwardly from said vertical wall, and spaced below said forwardly extending wall, and screw threaded means on said anges for gripping the narrow bedboard strip on the inner side of the side rail of a` bed and spaced above the lower edge thereof.

A holder of the character described comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front, a member having a transverse horizontal wall attached to the upper ends of the side walls adjacent the forward ends of said side walls, a vertical wall extending upwardly from said transverse wall, a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said vertical wall, and means on said member for clamping the narrow bedboard strip on the inner side of the side rail of a bed and spaced above the lower edge thereof.

A holder of the character described comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear up standing wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front, a member attached to the upper ends of the side walls and comprising a transverse vertical wall extending upwardly above said side walls, and a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said transverse wall, and said side walls extending forwardly beyond said forwardly extending wall.

A holder of the character described comprising a tray having a bottom wall, a rear upstanding wall, side upstanding walls, and being open at the front, a member attached to the upper ends of the side walls and comprising a transverse vertical wall extending upwardly above said side walls, and a wall extending forwardly from the upper end of said transverse wall, and said side walls extending forwardly beyond said forwardly extending wall, and means on said member to clamp the tray to the narrow bedboard strip on the inner side of the side rail of a bed and spaced above the lower edges thereof.

'12. A holder of the character described comprising a tray, said tray being open at its front end, the front end of the tray providing means to engage the underside of a side rail of a bed, means on the tray to engage the inner surface of the narrow bedboard strip on the inner side of said side rail spaced above the lower edge thereof, and means to engage the top of said bedboard strip.
