Description
(No Model.) T HARPER,
NEEDLE CABINET.-
. No. 263,902l Patented sept. 5, 188m UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS HARPER, OF REDDITCH, COUNTY OF WORCESTER, ENGLAND.
NEEDLE-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 263,902, dated September 5, 1882.
l Application led June 7, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS HARPER, of Redditch, county of Worcester, England, have invented a new and Improved Needle-Cabinet, ot'which the following act description.
The object of my invention is to furnish a p convenient and ornamental cabinet for containing needles in papers for the use ot retail shop-keepers; and in consists in a cabinet provided with receptacles for containing the packages, and fitted with slides whereby the packages can be readily as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l' is a front elevation, partially sectional, of my improved needlecabinet. Fig- 2 is a transverse section of the same.
The cabinet is to be of suitable size and form, the lower portion or base, A, being fitted with a. drawer, a, and the upper portion, B, constructed to receive the packages of needles.
b b are cross partitions or shelves dividing the upper part of the case B into compartment-s, and c c are vertical partitions between partitions b, by which the several smaller compartments d for containing the packages of needles are formed. The compartments d are of a width and depth for receiving the packages of needles readily, and they are fitted with slides e, preferably of metal, which run in grooves at the bottoms of the compartments, and project at the front ot' the cabinet in position for being taken hold of with the tinger and thumb. Upon the rear ends of the slides care lugs or projections j, that project above the surface of the slide a distance about equal to the thickness of a package of needles.
g g are doors or flaps hinged to the partitions b and closing down over the front of the compartments d, space, however, being left at is afull, clear, and ex-4 wthdrawn one at a time,-
the lower edges of the flaps to allow the packages of needles to be drawn out. The faces ofl the flaps g are numbered to indicate the several compartments d, the numbers indicating the size of the needles contained in such compartmen ts. 5o
I have shown two sets of compartments d, those at the top' being the widest for receiving the largest size packages, and the lower ones of smaller size for receiving the smaller packages. I do not, however, limit myself to the. number of compartments and their special arrangement in respect to size. The space in the case between the compartments may be covered or left open, and used for any desired purpose.
The packages of needles being placed in the several compartments, when it is desired to take out a package ot any number the slide 0f that compartment is drawn outward, thereby bringing out the lower package of the pile. The package being then removed, the slide is pushed back.
This cabinet is ornamental, and may be used for other articles besides needles-as, for instance, spool-cotton, braids, Src-the compartments being made of suitable form. y
Having thus i'ully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The needle cabinet provided with the compartments d, in which are fitted the slides e, substantially as shown and described.
2. In needle cabinets, the combination of the slides e, formed with lugs or Hangesf, with the compartments d, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
