ATTOR EY UNITE STATE TERRY 0. CART/IAN, 0F VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA.
DISPLAY-RECEPTACLE.
Application filed June 21, 1919.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, TERRY O. GARMAN, citizen of the United States, residing at Vallejo, in the county of Solano, State of California, have invented new and useful Display-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to a display receptacle or show case and an object of the invention is to so arrange the compartments of the show case as to give the best display effect with the maximum amount of storage capacity.
It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the lower portion of show cases is of little display value since the customer usually stands close to the show case and does not look down at articles displayed much below the waist line.
This invention therefore seeks to make use of the lower portion of the counter as storage space while the upper portions are uslecpl for the display of the articles to be so Another object of the invention is to so arrange the doors to the show case as to permit the removal therefrom of the articles displayed without disturbing the front of the displayed articles while at the same time means is provided for the convenient removal of the front of the displayed articles when the stock becomes so far reduced as to require such removal.
Another object of the invention is to so arrange the doors to the show case as to permit them to be completely removed for cleanin the show case.
ther objects of the invention wlll appear as the description proceeds.
Atn embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which the same reference numeral is made to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that there may be modifications thereof.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the show case F 1g. 2 is a perspective end elevation thereof and lTig. 3 is an enlarged view of the means for locking the glass doors in place on the upper case.
The numeral 1 indicates a suitable base not intended for show purposes, in which Specification of Letters Patent.

there is a drawer 2 for the storage of any deslred commodity.
At the back of the show case, there is a closed compartment 3 having any suitable drawers 4: and 5 for storage purposes; while over the base and in front of the compartment 3, there are two compartments 6 and 7 with a central partition 8, and with glass ends and glass fronts. The glass ends and fronts are held in place by a suitable frame work 9 to 15 inclusive, the frame members 13, 14 and 15 being provided with plates 16 and 17 and 16, 17 which form slides for the glass doors 18 to 21 inclusive. These doors are made of heavy plate glass and slide horizontally from front to back of the show case so either may be moved to remove materials from the front or back of the show case, as may be desired.
In order to prevent the doors from being pushed out of their slides accidentally, there are three turn buttons 23 to 25 used. These turn buttons are shown in Fig. 1 in position to permit the removal of the top doors.
The front compartments of the show case may thus be observed by the purchaser both from the top and from the front.
At the back of the show case over the compartment 3 there are two upper glass inclosed compartments 27, 28 with a partition 29 between them. The plate glass forming the sides of these two compari ments is held in place by means of the frames 30 to 35 ilnclusive, the frames 33 to 35 being provided with slides 36 to 39 the same as the frames 13 to 15 for the glass tops 36 to 39 inclusive, said tops being slidable from front to back one over the other in pairs the same as the slides or doors 18 to 21. The slides covering the upper part of the show case are prevented from being ac cidentally displaced from their grooves by the turn buttons 40 to 4-2, the buttons being at the back of the upper compartments instead of the front as is the case with the lower compartments.
It will be noted that the show compartments may be filled by moving one of the slide doors over another and that the materials contained therein may be removed through the rear slide so long as convenient, thereby maintaining the front of the display intact until the compartment is more than half empty; whereupon the front door may be opened and the remainder of the contents more easily removed through that door.
It Will also be apparent that the shovv case itself provides convenient storage receptacles for the materialsit is intended to display.
What I claim is as follows, but various modifications may be made in the construction shown in the drawings and above particularly described form, Within the pur- View of my invention:
In a display cabinet a base section having an inclosed rear portion, a glass inclosed section at the front of the base, a glass inclosed section over the rear of the base and extending higher than the front of the glass inclosed section, each of the latter sections having glass slide tops arranged to permit the slides to be moved to expose either the front or back of the sections as may be desired, and turnable buttons on the front and the rear of the case to prevent the glass slides from being removed therefrom.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of June A. D.
1919. TERRY O. CARMAN.
