. 2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to baskets and more particularly to a basket for attachment to an ironing board for receiving articles ironed.
The principal; object of the invention is the provision of an ironing board basket.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an ironing board basket and means for removably attaching it to an ironing board.
A still further object 'of the invention is the provision of an ironing board basket of simple design and capable of inexpensiveconstruction.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an ironing board basket and mounting means attachable to wooden or metal top ironing boards.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an ironing board basket, the body portion of which is collapsible and which may be removed from the remainder for laundering.
The ironing board basket shown and described herein comprises a simple and inexpensive device which may be conveniently attached to the side of an ironing board so that a person ironing clothes thereon may deposit the clothes in the basket as they are ironed and thereby elimi nate the necessity of spreading papers on the floor beneath the ironing board to receive such clothes.
It is well known that in hand-ironing various articles, including clothing, linens and the like, it is frequently necessary to protect the ironed garment during the time of ironing and immediately thereafter from accidental engagement with the floor on which the ironing board is located.
The present invention relates to a basket which is detachably secured to the ironing board preferably on the side thereof opposite from the person using the ironing board and operating to receive articles as they are ironed and moved across the ironing board thereinto.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing board showing the basket attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the ironing board basket and attachment bracket.
Figure 3 is a vertical section taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a vertical section with parts broken away of the ironing board basket showing the same attached to a meta1 top ironing board.
Figure 5 is a vertical section taken on line 5-5 of Figure 4.
By referring to the drawings and Figure 1 in particular it will be seen that an ironing board, including a top I0 and a plurality of legs II and i2, has been disclosed together with an ironing board basket comprising a rectangular frame l3 and a depending fabric bag M. The fabric bag I4 has a hem [5 formed around its uppermost edge and is adapted thereby to be threaded'over the frame l3. The bag M has a vertical opening It in the central upper edge portion of the back wall and is adapted to be threaded over the frame l3 which is preferably formed of a single continuous piece of metal of suitable cross sectional shape, such as the horizontally disposed rectangular frame shown, the ends of which are outturned and positioned side-by-side, one of the ends being relatively short and the other extending outwardly beneath the ironing board top and secured thereto by a mounting bracket ll. The outturned ends of the frame l3 are indicated by the numerals l8 and I9 and the ends are normally bolted together as best seen in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings by a bolt and nut assembly 20. The bracket I1 is a U-shaped bracket with the ends of the arms outturned and provided with a plurality of openings 2 l-2l so that the bracket may be secured to any one of a number of different types of ironing boards such as those with wooden tops such as illustrated in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawings and those with metal tops such as illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings. The short end I8 of the frame [3 pivots on the bolt and nut assembly 20 to engage the ironing board and hold the basket in position thereon. This may be seen by referring to Figure 3 of the drawings in which a detailed sectional view of the ironing board basket and ironing board may be seen and it will be observed that the bracket I! is secured to the wooden top [0 of the ironing board by a plurality of screws 22.
In Figure 4 of the drawings a metal topped ironing board comprising a perforated metal sheet 23 is disclosed which is supported on a plurality of longitudinally extending channels 24 and has a down-turned edge 25. The ironing board basket is positioned on the edge of this construction in the same manner as the device shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings with the exception that bolt and nut assemblies 25 are substituted for the screws 22 and a pair of sidewardly positioned U-shaped members 21 are used as filler blocks to space the bracket I! with respect to the top 23. It will thus be seen that the bracket [1 is adapted for universal application as it may belsimphr secured toa wooden topped ironirrgilboa'rd (ar -various mtaltopped ironing boardsknown in the art without altering the structure and arrangement of the ironing board bracket itself.
In applying the ironing board basketito the ironing board, the projecting endportion IQ of the frame i3 is positioned through"the w 'shape'd bracket I! and the device slidazini-under theaedge of the ironing board, as best shown in Figures 3 and 4' ofthe drawings, so that the edge ofthe ironing board overlies the upper edge of the frame device i to be self quasi-honing with respect i the ironing board and to avoid tilting arid-sagging as "theweight rif thefidevice plus the tv-eightof any-vldthes thei 'einprevent -tl te--*samei from becoming disengaged -from the droning 'board until-anduiiess itis deiiberately"removed therefrom.
