The cover includes a rearwardly projecting shank seating in a slot in the upper side of the bight of the shoe and the bight of the shoe is formed with a stop for holding the receptacle cover in open position.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a jewelry box constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detailed side elevation of the box with the cover in open position.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of either Figure 2 or 4.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral [0 designates generally a base in the form of a horse shoe which includes a bight portion. II and side members I2. The bight portion l I is provided with a downwardly extending lug or supporting I member l3, and each side member I2 is provided with a caulk l4 forming a foot or supporting member. A receptacle generally designated as I5 is formed on the inside of the horse shoe I0 extending forwardly from the bight thereof and includes a bottom wall I6 formed integral with the sides 12 and the forward portion of the bight H. A front wall l1 extends upwardly from the bottom wall l5 and is formed with a centrally disposed cutout 0r finger recess 18. A pad or cushion member I9 is adapted to be disposed within the receptacle l5 and includes a band or strap 20 extending over the upper side of the cushion l9 so as to removably hold a wedding ring 2| on the cushion I9.
A cover or closure generally designated as 22 engages over the receptacle I5 and includes a plate 23 having a relatively narrow shank 24 extending from the rear thereof, and the shank 24 is adapted when the cover [5 is in closed position to seat in a slot or recess 25 formed in the upper side of the bight [0. The shank 24 isprovided with a hinge barrel 26 at the rear thereof through which a pintle 21 engages, and the pintle 21 engages in hinge barrels 28 formed on the rear of 2 the bight I l. The bight I I is provided at the rear thereof with an upwardly projecting lug or stop member 29 which is engageable by the shank 24 when the cover l5 is raised upwardly to open position so as to hold the cover l5 in upwardly and rearwardly inclined open position.
The cover l5 also includes a forward flange 30 extendingdownwardly from the plate 23 which is adapted to overlap the front wall or flange H of the receptacle [5. The plate 23 is formed on the upper side thereof with a bezel 3i within which a crystal or transparent plate 32 is adapted to engage, and an indicia bearing sheet 33 is positioned between the crystal 32, and the upper side of the plate 23.
The jewelry box hereinbefore described may be formed out of either metal, plastic, or other suitable material, and will provide an attractive receptacle for holding a wedding ring or other article of jewelry.
