SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,200, dated August 22, 1882.
Application filed April 18, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAMES O.NE1LL, of Lolland, in the county of Redwood and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists in a novel construction, arrangement, and combination of a tubular standard provided with a spring, a hopper provided with a shank or stem, and a flanged or flaring neck, as hereinafter more particularly described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of an apparatus constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom view, showing the band and clasp holding the bag in position on the neck of the hopper. Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the clasp in position for being fastened or unfastened.
A represents a base or foot. from which rises a tubular standard, B, in which is a coiled spring, 0.
The hopper D is of funnel shape, with its neck d flanged or flaring at the lower end. The hopper D is provided with a shank or stem, E, extending outward from one side and then downward and fitting in the tubular standard B, so as to rest on the spring 0.
Any form of tie may be used-such as the common elastic band Gr, link h, loop 1', and hook j-to hold the bag on the hopper while in use.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The stem E being in place in the standard B, the mouth of the bag I is placed around the neck 61 of the hopper, and the band G is then passed around the bag and fastened. The bag is thus held securely in place, as shown in Fig. 1. The bag is removed by reversing the position of the hook so as to release the band.
The advantages of my invention are: It is cheap and simple in its construction, easily 0perated, strong and durable, and notliable to get out of order. The spring provides for bolding the bag up from the floor until its bottom is filled out, after which the contents of the bag are allowed'to carry it down until its bottom rests on the floor. The flanged or flaring neck enables the bands to hold the bag securely, so as not to slip out of place.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bag-holder, the combination, with the base A, tubular standard B, and inclosed spring 0, of the bent shank E and hopper D, as shown and described.
