CHARLES T. HAYDEN, OF WHITESBOROUGH, TEXAS.
TANNING COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 262,766, dated August 15, 1882. Application filed May 4, 1882. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES T. HAYDEN, of Whitesborough, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tanning (3on1- pounds; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to compounds used in tanning hides, skins, 850.; andit consists in a compound composed of the ingredients hereinafter named, in the proportions specified: soft water, ten gallons; sulphuric acid, one ounce; terra-japonica,three pounds; leachings 'from horse-manure, one gallon; starch, one
pound; dog-fennel, threepounds; leaf-tobacco, (cured,) three pounds: broom-weed, three pounds; common salt, fivepounds. Theseingredients, after being thoroughly mixed and commingled, will form a compound which will be adapted for tanning leather of all kinds.
I have found that by its use sheep-skins toughness and durability.
The principal advantage of the compound is that its action on the hides is speedy, only CHARLES THOMAS HAYDEN.
