Description
Feb. 3, 1953 A. LA ROCK PLUMB LiNE HOLDER Filed May 22, 1951 'INVENTOR. A6612! 14190625 BYjo/wwm ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 3, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention relates generally to plumb line holders, and specifically to plumb line holders which are easily adjustable to support the plumb at varying heights as may be required.
It is among the objects of my invention to provide a plumb line holder which may be readily suspended from a cord.
Another object of my invention is to provide a plumb line holder which may be readily suspended from a nail.
It is among the further objects of my invention to provide an adjustable plumb line holder which suspends the plumb in a stable manner and tends to minimize swaying or swinging.
It is among the further objects of my invention to provide a plumb line holder that easily permits the shortening or lengthening of the cord which holds the plumb.
It is among the further objects of my invention to provide an adjustable plumb line holder which is simple in form, easy to construct, inexpensive and durable.
These objects and advantages, as well as other objects and advantages, are attained by the device illustrated in the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of my plumb line holder;
Figure 2 is a rear view of my plumb line holder;
Figure 3 is a view in perspective thereof;
Figure 4 is an end view; and
Figure 5 is a top view.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, my plumb line holder consists of a plate ll, preferably formed of metal although other material may be used. The top of the plate is provided with a longitudinal bent over portion or lip I2 which presents the appearance of an inverted U. Commencing at one of the vertical edges, a slot I3 is cut in the plate extending downward from the side edge toward the center of the plate. Below the lowest portion of this slot, and preferably extending from the opposite edge, a tongue 14 is formed integral with the plate H by two slits l5. The tongue M has an extended portion 16 going beyond the edge of the plate II.
The lip I2 is intended to engage a cord I! or a nail l8, from which the holder may be suspended. The slot 13 is the slot into which the line 19 which supports the plumb 20 is attached. The tongue M is bent slightly from the plane of the plate. Since the plate H is formed of resilient material, the integral tongue I 4 will be resilient and may be bent out still further from that plane to enable the deep insertion of the line. The line 19 may he slid into the slits l5 until it is firmly engaged against slipping between the tongue and the edges 2| of the plate, whereupon the line is firmly held and the plumb is maintained at the proper level. The line is easily removed by lightly flexing the tongue l4 so that the cord can be slid outwardly toward the entrance of the slits l5 and is no longer engaged between the tongue M and the edges 2| of the plate. Thus it is a simple matter 'to adjust the height of the plumb 29 at any chosen level.
The foregoing description is merely intended to illustrate an embodiment of the invention. The component parts have been shown and described. They each may have substitutes which may perform a substantially similar function; such substitutes may be known as proper substitutes for the said components and may have actually been known or invented before the present invention; These substitutes are contemplated as being within the scope of the appended claims, although they are not specifically catalogued herein.
I claim:
1. A plumb line holder comprising a slotted plate, a longitudinal bent over portion at the top of the plate extending downwardly therefrom, said slot being in one edge of the plate extending inward and downward on the plate, and a tongue formed integral with the plate and defined by a pair of slits extending inwardly from the opposite edge of the plate below the slot.
2. A plumb line holder comprising a slotted plate, a longitudinal bent over portion at the top of the plate extending downwardly therefrom, said slot being in one edge of the plate extending inward and downward on the plate, a tongue formed integral with the plate and defined by a pair of slits extending inwardly from the opposite edge of the plate below the slot, said tongue being deformed from the plane of the plate and disposed at a slight angle thereto and also having a portion extended beyond the edge of the plate.
ALFRED LA ROCK.
