DOUCHE APPLIANCE Filed April 28, 1951 IIIIIIIIIII INVENTOR. James h. fioolh BY 6W, 1
ATTORNEYS- Patented Jan. 27, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT 'OFFICE DOUCHE APPLIANCE James H. Booth, Detroit, Mich.
Application April 28, 1951, Serial No. 223,536
4 Claims.
' appliance comprises merely a coupler; rubber tube and nozzle which'may easily be packed or carried in a small case. A bottle of carbonated water may be used with this as a substitute for the usual douche water-holding bag.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of the appliance coupled to a bottle of carbonated water.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the coupling.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of a modified form of the invention in which the bottle does not have to be inverted.
Fig. 5 is a detail of the coupling used with this form.
i is the usual rubber tube with a shut off valve or clip 2. 3 is the usual vaginal or rectal nozzle. The end of the tube remote from the nozzle is fitted over the tubular shank 4 of the coupling. The other end of the shank has an annular flange 5 and is also externally threaded at 6. Fitted over the flange is a knurled coupling. This is in the form of a cap nut I. A knurled head 8 is fastened to the shank whose threads engage with threads M on the turned under flange l5 of the cap nut. A sealing washer 9 is made of rubber or cork or other suitable material. The cap has another turned in flange ll] of slightly more than 180 and is extended tangentially on each side. This forms a semi-annular gripping flange and is open at one side so that the neck of the bottle 12 can slide in this open mouth H and the bead IS on the bottle neck under the flange as at l3.
To use the appliance one slips the open mouth coupling I over the neck of the bottle of carbonated water. The shank and the cap nut are then given rotational relative movement by turning the cap nut and bottle or the knurled head 8. This tightens the sealing washer 9 against the top of the bottle. If medication is desired, the
medicament is inserted in the bottle before the appliance is coupled to the bottle. After the coupling, the bottle is turned upside down and shaken well. The nozzle 3 can then be inserted in the body and the shut oii valve or clip 2 released. Or the shaking can be done after the nozzle is 2 in the body. bottle by the released gases will push the water out of the bottle, through the tube and out the nozzle.
This is a great convenience over the bag with a longtube which has to be used when the bag is hung on an elevated hook or bar. No bag need '1 be carried and the tube can be much shorter] The carbonated water can be purchased in al most any hotel or neighborhood drug store. Other gas charged liquids may be used.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the tubular shank projects beyond the annular flange 5 to form neck 20 which takes rubber tube 2| to extend down in the bottom of the bottle so that the bottle need not be inverted but just shaken to generate the gas pressure to propel the liquid.
When I call the article a douche appliance in the claims, I desire it understood that it could also be used as a sprayer or an atomizer and these are to be included in the coverage of the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A douche appliance having in combination a flexible tube, a nozzle at one end and a coupling at the other end, said coupling comprising a tubular shank with one end flanged and the other end serving as a seat for one end of the flexible tube, a threaded portion on the shank, and a cap nut having a turned under annular flange having threads engaging the threads of the shank and having another turned in flange open at one side to receive the end of the bottle neck of a carbonated or other gas charged liquid which can be slid in to have the bead on the bottle neck rest under the turned in flange, the shank and the cap nut capable of relative rotational movement to cause the annular flange on the end of the shank and the end of the bottle to approach each other in sealing arrangement.
2. A douche appliance having in combination a flexible tube, a nozzle at one end and a coupling at the other end, said coupling comprising a tubular shank with one end flanged and the other end serving as a seat for one end of the flexible tube, a sealing washer against theflange to engage against the end of the neck of the bottle, a threaded portion on the shank, and a cap nut having 9. turned under annular flange having threads engaging the threads of the shank and having another turned in flange open at one side to receive the end of the bottle neck of a carbonated water or other gas charged liquid which can he slid in to have the bead on the bottle neck The pressure generated in therest under the turned in flange, the shank and the cap nut capable of relative rotational movement to cause the annular flange on the end of the shank and the end of the bottle to approach each other in sealing arrangement.
8. A douche appliance having in combination a flexible tube, a nozzle at one end and a coupling at the other end, said coupling comprising a tubular shank with one end flanged and the other end serving asia seat for one end of the: flexible tube, an enlarged head on the shank by which the shank may be turned, a threaded portion on the shank, and a cap nut having a turned under;
annular flange having threads engaging the threads of the shank and having another'turne'd in flange open at one side to receive: the end of, the bottle neck of a carbonated. Water or other gas charged liquid which can be slid in to have the bead on the bottle neck rest under the turned in flange, the shank and the cap nut capable of relative rotational movement to cause the annular flange on the end of the shank and the end of the bottle to approach each other in sealing arrangement. g
4. A douche appliance having in combination a flexible tube, a-nozzle at one end and a coupling at the other end, said coupling comprising a tubular shank with one end flanged. and the other end serving as a. seat for one end of the flexible tube 4 an enlarged knurled head on the shank, a threaded portion on the shank, and a knurled cap nut having a turned under annular flange having threads engaging the thread of the shank and having another turned in flange open at one side to receive the end of the bottle neck of a carbonated water or other gas charged liquid which can be slid in to have the bead on the bottle neck rest under the turned in flange, the shank and the cap nut capable of relative rotational; movement to cause the annular flange on the end of the shank and the end of the bottle to approach each other in sealing arrangement.
